Besides Discord, what is a great platform for a group of students to connect and support each other when doing a remote course? Not sure who to tag to get reach about this question, but will go for [@actuallyautistic](https://a.gup.pe/u/actuallyautistic) in case some people have had experience of various platforms this way. \- Some more info for those who might want it: The students are on the same course studying technical topics but may have very little prior experience of tech. They may be based anywhere in the world, so different time zones, cultures, career backgrounds and aspirations. Around 100-120 students is the expected size of the community that would want to connect. Purposes would be to chat about the course, support each other (but not for academic misconduct, obviously! 😜) May benefit from the ability to have group video calls for chats or study-together sessions, but this could be via another platform (like Zoom / Teams). It sounds like an official Discord may be being set up, but it could be months away as it has taken some time to materialise already. My thinking is that it doesn’t make sense to invest time and energy into a temporary Discord community if we’ll all be switching later. The students all have MS Teams, so a Teams channel may be good. But what else is there? What am I forgetting? 🤔

[@actuallyautistic](https://a.gup.pe/u/actuallyautistic) [#politics](https://autistics.life/tags/politics) “[Ford said] ".. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur. "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford. "It is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"

I feel this so hard. Why can't people just be clear about what they want? Some autistic people experience meltdowns or shutdowns. When I get overstimulated I tend to shutdown. If you experience either of these, or both, which is more prevalent for you? When minority groups are facing a decline in their well-being due to real problems that affect their group, no amount of positive thinking will make that go away. It is completely unreasonable to ask people to think positively about their lack of privilege in a situation. Tis the season when communal meals stop being texturally sound for me. Chief offenders being stuffing, mashed potatoes, and creative liberties taking with jello… [\#autistic](https://mastodonbooks.net/tags/autistic) [#actuallyautistic](https://mastodonbooks.net/tags/actuallyautistic) [#autist](https://mastodonbooks.net/tags/autist) [#audhd](https://mastodonbooks.net/tags/audhd) [#food](https://mastodonbooks.net/tags/food) [@actuallyautistic](https://a.gup.pe/u/actuallyautistic) [@audhd](https://a.gup.pe/u/audhd)

RIP Donald Triplett (1933–2023), who at the age of 5 became the first person to be given the newly-conceived diagnosis of autism. In the writings of Dr. Leo Kanner, the child psychiatrist who came up with the diagnosis, Mr. Triplett is referred to as "Case 1." Image description courtesy of Vero Algoz: The photo shows a photo of a bald, white, male looking person, not really looking into the camera.the person wears a white shirt and suspenders, and the background seems like an autumn landscape of trees without leaves.
