Massachusetts and Connecticut are the first two states in the US to ban the use of toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” in protective gear worn by firefighters. Turnout gear, including jackets, pants, boots, gloves and other protective equipment that firefighters wear is treated heavily with PFAS that makes it resistant to water and heat, and helps the textiles breathe. But the protection comes at a steep cost: the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) estimates cancer from turnout gear accounted for 66% of firefighter deaths from 2002 to 2019. ...

The Goshen Fair is always on Labor Day weekend. One of the areas largest Ag fairs it's worth checking out. Fair food galore, animals, deadly carny rides (I kid, or do I ?) and lots of stuff to see and do. It runs 8-6 today.
I had no idea we were the only state in the area without a bear hunting season!

So, I just got my tax bill yesterday. It is just for my car as I don't own anything else. It isn't outrageous but I can't imagine what it must be like for other people in the state. Whatever happened to the push to eliminate car taxes?

I ran a very small hiking sub over on Reddit, I don't feel the community here is big enough yet for a new instance so we'll just keep building CT up. Take a few pictures at key spots and send them in. Complete 10 of the 15 hikes and you earn a hiking medallion for your hiking stick. Complete all 15 and you're in a drawing for 1 of 50 hiking sticks. We have a beautiful state and you'll be amazed at what is available close by.
