https://test.hexbear.net/ https://next.hexbear.net/ Still show old account that have been deleted along with their posts.
I, being used to my password manager doing everything, failed to save my password when I made my Hexbear account. The application has since been accepted, but when I try to reset the password the bear icon spins for a while before resetting to the reset password button. I have tried multiple browsers and devices. I assume this is because I've never logged in to the account and that's why it doesn't want to work. Can anything be done?
It doesn't have the title of the link in the preview and the description is in French (I think?). Problem on my end or what?
I was told that the news megathread was intended to protect the sharing of smaller news stories that the hexbear algorithm normally crush. Mods even said that chatter in the news mega thread was supposed to end so that lesser news would be more visible. A big news story happens and the whole front page has threads that people can talk in about it. So I go to the news megathread to see other stories and also people are flooding the mega thread which is intended to preserve visibility of less visible stories. That does not make sense. How is anyone supposed to see other news stories from today? (or the last 5 days) Converting the weekly new megathread into another "trump got shot" thread killed the visibility of every lesser news story of the past 5 days. Why was the story not made into a separate megathread?
Hi All, Thanks for the patience on the 8 hour downtime. The upgrade was completed successfully, and we are now on latest lemmy version, 0.19.5. The update encompasses these changes: https://join-lemmy.org/news/2024-06-07_-_Lemmy_Release_v0.19.4_-_Image_Proxying_and_Federation_improvements https://join-lemmy.org/news/2024-06-19_-_Lemmy_Release_v0.19.5_-_A_Few_Bugfixes In addition, we have decided to host a new, experimental frontend for lemmy, hosted at https://next.hexbear.net. This frontend is in-development at https://github.com/sunaurus/lemmy-ui-next. Its generally a faster, more efficient, and simpler UI. It is missing some features, such as markdown editor and emoji picker currently. But, if you are on a low-powered device, you may find the experience of browsing and posting much better than the official UI. Please post any bugs or feedback here and I'll try and address them if possible. Thanks!
[posting here because it seems like that's the right way instead of @'ing CARCOSA and other admins et al] hi, I recently posted a 12.9MB PNG by mistake before realizing how big it was, deleting, and reposting with a much smaller JPEG. deleted post: https://hexbear.net/post/1655031 replaced with: https://hexbear.net/post/1655036 now I'm feeling bad that I wasted almost 13 megs of space for an image that is now only linked in a deleted post. so my question is two-fold, 1. any way I could tell hexbear to nuke the image in my deleted post? 2. distinct from an active feature that would let me delete the image, I'm wondering if we have some sort of system for finding unreferenced images and garbage collecting them. part of me is worried about someone spamming hexbear with large images
Sure, being able to quickly find `:graphic-design-is-my-passion:` by typing `:grdeimpas` is neat, but I challenge you to quickly find the original `:sus:` which is buried in a bunch of completely unrelated emojis. At the very least I think that more “complete” matches should be sorted higher, but honestly the entire “position agnostic partial” search system (idk what to call it) is kinda ![sus](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/50e33463-aa3c-4671-86a4-ba6c04ef525d.png "emoji sus") when we have this many emojis, and now tags as well.
Previously when hitting "Back" on my phone from a comment thread, I would be taken back to just some random other page on the site, and would have to manually navigate back where I was. Super annoying when I was scrolling, was on page 3, hit a comment thread, hit back, and ended up back on page 2 for whatever reason. Anyway apparently in the last release this bug was fixed, and it's really nice to be able to hit back and end up where I was. Thank you for fixing this bug.
I want my push notes god damn it.
Handy and I love that bot.
https://lemmy.ml/c/scna - https://i.imgur.com/whgXxbb.png https://hexbear.net/c/scna@lemmy.ml - https://i.imgur.com/dKCvSJm.png When logged into the Lemmy.ml account and using that native address, posts between now and 19 days ago are visible. On my hexbear account the subcommunity itself is visible, but there are no posts. I cleared cookies for both this morning and it also doesn't show up on my phone. At the same time though I can see a post made around the same time in lemmy.ml/c/crows so I'm not sure if there's a minimum subscriber threshold for posts being visible or what.
When I write a string of custom emojis, they display in reverse order than how I wrote them. For example, earlier I wrote out this: [kiryu-approaching] [speech-side-l-1] من المية للمية [speech-side-l-2] but that displays like this: ![kiryu-approaching](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/2280972f-88bb-4bc3-90af-a5747b10d0cf.png "emoji kiryu-approaching") ![speech-side-l-1](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/ef1a9829-e3f6-4454-91f4-51dbd084def3.png "emoji speech-side-l-1")من المية للمية![speech-side-l-2](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/9a8d093c-c495-4a5d-92bc-6fb24b8430e3.png "emoji speech-side-l-2") instead of displaying in the order i wrote them out in like this: ![speech-side-l-2](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/9a8d093c-c495-4a5d-92bc-6fb24b8430e3.png "emoji speech-side-l-2")من المية للمية![speech-side-l-1](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/ef1a9829-e3f6-4454-91f4-51dbd084def3.png "emoji speech-side-l-1") ![kiryu-approaching](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/2280972f-88bb-4bc3-90af-a5747b10d0cf.png "emoji kiryu-approaching")
Previously - [I have a phantom message that doesn't appear in my inbox in "unread" or in "all". - Hexbear](https://hexbear.net/post/1308364?scrollToComments=false)
Messed up for a while now and I've been getting replies that don't show up.
I'm on a desktop. I can copy and paste emoji text `:sicko-yes` to create one... ![sicko-yes](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/72ee2a95-169b-4bb8-9be3-167e42f4d5d1.png "emoji sicko-yes") but that's the only thing that works. \--- **Ninja edit** Now it's working again. I'll post this anyway because it's still a bug.
Sorting by hot, this is on my front page. What is going on
There's this odd thin 'scroll bar' looking line at the top left of the site page. That's the top of the pic. When I click it a 'Jump to content' button appears. That's the bottom of the pic. Here's the code of the button: NVM, can't figure out how to retain the html in a code block. ~~>Jump to content~~ Anyone else notice this? OS: Linux Browser: Firefox
I tried to make this my title for a post of mine.. > Math: unless you are a Jew who has friends or family in Israel, you have a middle eastern studies PhD, & you agree that Israel can do no wrong - your opinions are entirely invalid. Checkmate, commies. I tried to post it a few times and it hung each time. Finally I realized the obvious. Problem was the ampersand. My title was under the limit but because of the `&` bug - my post went over the limit so it hung.
Not a ![logout](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/34234730-ce0a-4cdb-958b-57478ee90dcf.png "emoji logout") bit. I hit the logout button on the menu and the screen just goes back to the homepage with my profile still logged in. I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue, and if so, is there a work around? Happens on Firefox and Chrome on mobile/PC.
[Edit - I also learned that only mods can post in the fake news comm.]
1. The header says 2 messages but my `inbox > unread` and `inbox > all` both do not show the messages. 2. This post of mine - https://hexbear.net/post/971624?scrollToComments=false - has a 1 comment but I can't see it. There's nothing there. \--- **Edit 1** It's probably the hexreplybot. I have no idea how the bot works but I assume it automatically ***doesn't*** send a comment to the OP but the messages still appear in the header anyway. \--- **Edit 2** I have 3 phantom comments but I blocked the bot so I will at least not get ***more***.
They're used as anti-semetic slurs by the far right. There seems to be a proclivity to use the terms as applied to bug-eating politics, but unfortunately the term is simply too associated with anti-semetism and I think particularly given the current conflict it makes good sense to filter it.
With the **top all time** option I searched for the word `blocking` in my account in posts - https://hexbear.net/search?q=blocking&type=Posts&listingType=All&creatorId=21005&page=1&sort=TopAll The search doesn't find this post I made 8 days ago - [A question about blocking Youtube's "Don't use an adblocker" nag.](https://hexbear.net/post/853654?scrollToComments=false)
I am red-green colorblind and the particular hue of green used for hyperlinks is basically indistinguishable from regular body text for me. Is it possible to increase the color contrast between the hyperlink text color and the normal text color, or use some other kind of stylistic signifier for links? its ok if not lol
The 6 image rate limit has just caused me to not bother posting a comment I was trying to make. I did the same 2 days ago when I hit it after putting effort into a comment. There's a tonne of stuff popping off in Israel right now that I could/would have thrown in the news thread but after hitting the limit and realising I've only gotten half of the stuff I needed to upload done it's just a case of "oh i guess I can't post that" and also now can't post anything else without jumping through hoops. Obviously I could jump through hoops but a bunch of Palestinian propaganda content is likely to get removed uploaded anywhere else and hitting this wall just completely demotivates posting entirely. Like, 10 would be a better limit. I don't think I've ever done anything where I'd hit that. 6 is not enough if it'll be hit every few days and ruin someone's effort.
I'm unsure what's the limit on pictures per post, my other plan is just use imgur but are there any better options? Thanks in advance
I've had to post my daily bloomer threads to c/chapotraphouse because when I try to post them to bloomer I just get the never ending spinning bear.
Hi there, I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble, but I've blocked users who I've found annoying (and who find me annoying) and they are still somehow able to see and reply to my comments/posts, which to my understanding should not even be possible. I don't imagine they know they're doing anything wrong by doing that (because they don't know they're blocked) but this definitely seems like a bug.
No, seriously. But I also can't seem to stay signed in either, so I guess the issue will resolve itself tomorrow. More info: I can't logout on desktop or mobile; have tried multiple times. Insert joke about conscription for the posting wars. Bonus points for working in Russia/Ukraine.
The front of "Active" is entirely two-day-old posts with 500 comments by debate bros. "Hot" is just "New." The old fork had a much better Active sort. If it's not possible for different Lemmys to have different sorts (would is extremely weird, but Lemmy code is weird in general), then it should be upstreamed. If you're wondering *why* it's like this, it's two parts: * [hot_rank](https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/blob/a57658d99c385522328ba8ae5ddaf5d85ffa1475/migrations/2021-01-05-200932_add_hot_rank_indexes/up.sql#L8) is (slightly simplified) `log(upvotes + 3) / (age_in_hours + 2)^1.8`. This means every vote matters less than the last, but every hour costs more than the last. A brand new post with 1 vote is equal to an hour old post with 15 votes. It gets even more stacked when looking at posts with higher vote counts: a new post with 10 votes is equivalent to an hour old post with 120 votes. * "Active" is just hot_rank but with the post age replaced with the time since the last comment. Every comment "bumps" the post; the age of the post does not matter at all until the two day cutoff is hit. Because hot_rank is overwhelmingly just "new", this is overwhelmingly just "newest comment" with a mild bonus to highly voted posts. My first suggestion would be restoring the version of the sort from the fork. It worked for years. Failing that, I would suggest replacing hot_rank with `(upvotes+5)/(age_in_hours+5)` (you can replace the 5s with any small positive number and get similar results). This will fix Hot, and improve Active, but Active will still be a dumpster fire, because the age is time since last comment, which still prioritizes flame wars. I would suggest changing Active entirely to use `(comment_count + upvotes + 5)/(age_in_hours +5)`. (PS: I'd go submit a PR but it'd out my real identity and I think it'd get ignored anyway.)
cross-posted from: https://hexbear.net/post/482855 > I didn't know where to post this, so I hope it's fine here. I use the 'litely' theme on Hexbear because I need a high-contrast setting that won't strain my eyes due to my low eyesight. Unfortunately, the 'Featured Posts' section is completely unreadable. Could somebody please fix the CSS of the 'litely' and 'litely-red' themes? > > That's how it looks like: > > ![](https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/5b492e31-cbfb-4e0a-a1fa-c7c6cb2d07e4.png) > > Thank you!
I haven't been able to figure out any rhyme or reason for it, the site just intermittently doesn't load
Sometimes when I run out of local posts, my gut still hungers for slop, but I don't want to sift through posts I already read.
Until today I had an animated profile picture, changed it for owl appreciation day and now I it won't let me re-use the profile picture I had? It's even there on the server @ https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/49d5c974-6784-446d-af10-5c369c7781c7.webp?format=webp But if I try to add it to my profile picture again, it fails. If I had been warned about this I would not have ever changed it. Give it back :( EDIT: Solution - https://hexbear.net/comment/3855898
I'm seeing a recurring issue where I don't have any replies in my inbox, or I have two from fellow hexbears, but then I go to look at a recent comment I'm expecting a liberal to reply to and their reply has been there for some time. It seems the reply inbox is a little inconsistent with federated users maybe? Anyway thought I'd share that in case it's helpful. I don't /really/ mind not getting dinged with replies from liberals since my comrades are always happy to carry the load.
