Oingo Boingo
I already posted all the songs that would best fit New Year, so here's something 40 years late. Definitely a lot of parallels that can still be drawn today. This is my morning alarm, surprisingly I haven't started to hate it yet.
That's ~15min/day every day of the year and only ~467 people listened more than me
Three days late, but I can't accept that I missed my chance, so here's "Gratitude" not quite on time for Thanksgiving. I've always thought the intro sounds like circus music.
I had a tough time deciding which song to post today given OB's connection to Halloween, but this feels like a good fit. My first thought the first time I heard this song was 'This explains why they picked him to score The Nightmare Before Christmas' This is the album I know best and I've often fantasized about listening to it at a Halloween party in 1985 Happy Halloween!
Some pretty heavy lyrics in this one, but also quite catchy and energetic.
Always makes me think of Weird Al's "Why Does This Always Happen To Me?" Very interesting video.
Frequent earworm. Love the line about protein biscuits
Brutal critique of a critic
This one is very catchy. (It makes me want to dance) "They don't know what life's about They don't have blood They've got too many legs They don't have brains in their heads" This part makes me think this could be a critique of conformity or racism.
What a way to start a career
One of my favorites lyrics-wise. Interesting exploration of duality. Love the lines Sam Phipps does (reptile/samurai facts)
I work for a manufacturing company and sometimes go onto the factory floor, think about this song almost every time.
The first time I heard this, I had to play it for my wife who loves The Cure. Lovingly referred to as "the most 80s song ever." Also reminiscent of Depeche Mode.
Beautiful song, nearly brings me to tears.
This song is lightning in a bottle. I know the album was technically released by Danny Elfman, but I think most people agree it's an Oingo Boingo album. The line "I should know, I've been hit three times (or was it four?)" sounds like a possible reference to his three previous albums with Oingo Boingo and also a dig at IRS for dropping the band and/or MCA for only offering a solo contract.
One of their more esoteric songs, sounds a bit spooky
I wasn't around at the time, but I feel like this would have been the radio hit from this album.
I prefer the original black and white version as it matches the era much of the (non OB) soundtrack comes from but watchable gonna do?
Since it's the third day, I thought it would be fun to post what I call "the 3 3s". The third track of the first three albums are some of the best. Fun song, got me to read The Island of Doctor Moreau.
Since it's the third day, I thought it would be fun to post what I call "the 3 3s". The third track of the first three albums are some of the best. Really interesting exploration of isolation.
Since it's the third day, I thought it would be fun to post what I call "the 3 3s". The third track of the first three albums are some of the best. I identify with these lyrics.
My favorite since the first time I heard it
I was lucky enough to see Boingo live a few times. Danny killing Coachella a couple years ago absolutely blew me away. I didn't see it live, didn't even know he was performing, but I saw the video of that performance and it blew me away. That has little to do with this video. I can't say I have **a** favorite Boingo song, but *Grey Matter* will always be in the discussion.
I think this song is about being intoxicated. All the lines are goofy and I interpret the chorus as “let’s skip work and get high." The part that really gave me this idea is "Have you seen my garden It is most peculiar Have you seen my garden Nothing there that grows Looks anything at all like plants I hear their voices . . ."
