Hi Everyone! (You may have seen this already, but it looks like posts from Lemmy.World are having issues federating) It's time for the Lemmy iRacing League. We'll be running Season 1 as a 3 week series, using entirely base content (included with the subscription). This post will serve as the single Pinned Post for the whole season. If you're not available for all races that's alright, and anybody is welcome to join for a single week. # Schedule Pending the end of voting (~2-3 hours after this post goes up) we will be racing on Sunday at 9pm GMT/5pm EDT/10pm BST ## Week 1 * Car: Global Mazda MX-5 Cup * Track: Lime Rock Park * Date/Time: Sunday Aug. 6 9pm GMT * Qualifying: 2 Lap Qualifying, Reverse Grid for Race 2 * Race Format: 2 Races, 15 Laps each ### Week 2: * Car: Ray FF 1600 * Track: Rudskogen * Date/Time: Sunday Aug. 13 9pm GMT * Qualifying: 2 Lap Qualifying, Reverse Grid for Race 2 * Race Format: 2 Races, 15 Laps each ### Week 3: - Sunday Aug. 20 * Car: Radical SR8 * Track: Laguna Seca * Date/Time: Sunday Aug. 20 9pm GMT * Qualifying: 2 Lap Qualifying * Race Format: 1 Race, 30 Laps # Results ### Week 1: | **Driver** | **Race 1 Points** | **Race 2 Points** | |------------|-------------------|-------------------| | itsmikeyd | 2 | 1 | | BURN | 1 | 2 | | BrotherMug | 3 | 3 | ### Week 2: | **Driver** | **Race 1 Points** | |------------|-------------------| | F4celess@sopuli.xyz | 1 | | BURN | 2 | | BrotherMug | 3 | ### Week 3: | **Driver** | **Race 1 Points** | |------------|-------------------| | BURN | 100 | | BrotherMug | 200 | ## Overall Championship: | **Driver** | **Week 1** | **Week 2** | **Week 3** |**TOTAL**| |------------|------------|------------|-----------|----------| | BrotherMug | 6 | 3 | 200 | 209 | | itsmikeyd | 3 | - | - | 3 | | BURN | 3 | 2 | 100 | 105 | | F4celess@sopuli.xyz | - | 1 | - | 1 | # CONGRATS TO BrotherMug and BURN for the joint championship (awarded for showing up all 3 weeks) # Rules Please read the [iRacing Sporting Code](https://www.iracing.com/iracing-official-sporting-code/) - This is extremely important, and will be worth the time it takes. The iRacing UI will also ask if you've read this before joining your first official session. We will follow the iRacing rules on clean racing. Protests will be handled after races are finished, outside of extreme cases. They can be submitted privately to myself or publicly in the thread. Both parties will be able to tell their side and then 2 uninvolved members will be asked to make a decision. Setups: Open setup races, but please don’t bring setup shop sets. I’m not going to police it too hard. Building your own setups is perfectly fine and the iRacing baselines are generally pretty decent too. # Getting Started With iRacing With some members not having use iRacing before, I felt like it would be good to add a section about getting started. This will set you up with a 1 month subscription, the UI installed, graphics configured and into a test session. ## Signing up https://www.iracing.com/membership/ The iRacing signup process offers a discount to new members, at ~40% off. This is a one time deal and if you choose to renew your membership it will be at full price. Many long term subscribers work around this by purchasing one year subscriptions during the yearly Black Friday sales. Our league is setup that a minimum subscription of 1 month, starting on Aug. 1 will get you all the way through the season. For a new account a 1 month membership is $7.80 USD. When you signup be sure to DISABLE the Auto-Renew subscription if you would not like to continue after the conclusion of the league. ## Install the iRacing UI When you log into the iRacing Member Website for the first time after signing up it should take you through a First Startup Guide which will guide installing the sim software, iRacing UI and any other necessary dependencies. ## Graphics and Triple Monitor setup I'm going to link to an external source on this, as Dan Suzuki has covered this really well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-irPlVdDdJo&t=615 # Joining The League In the sidebar of the UI select "Find a League" ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.world%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F72b2d582-c220-4742-ae37-8dc47de0f4e9.png) Search for "Lemmy iRacing League" ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.world%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F9269b6a8-db55-4f69-a0c3-1261c5bf7b8f.png) If there's interest in a group practice session I'll get one going, and then I'll be available online at least an hour before each race. Please leave any questions here in the thread and I or someone else should be able to help.

Based on this thread (https://feddit.org/post/3912054 / [!newcommunities@lemmy.world](https://lemmy.world/c/newcommunities) ) there are quite a few people who prefer not to interact with communities hosted on Lemmy.ml Could we maybe consider moving this community to a less controversial instance, such as discuss.tchncs.de because !trucksim@discuss.tchncs.de and !diysimulators@discuss.tchncs.de are already hosted there, or Lemmy.zip ?

Speed Dreams is a Motorsport Simulator featuring high-quality 3D graphics and an accurate physics engine, all targeting maximum realism. Initially forked from TORCS, it has now reached a clearly higher realism level in visual and physics simulation, thanks to its active development team and growing community. It mainly aims to implement exciting new features, cars, tracks and AI opponents to make a more enjoyable game for the player, while constantly pushing forward visual and physics realism. It is also intended for any research, study or teaching activity, around physics and AI, thanks to its GPL v2+ license, and the clear and modular architecture of its C/C++ code base.

Hello, Would it be possible to have weekly discussion threads? This usually helps giving people a place to chat without having to create posts themselves

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/21453474 > First of all we would like to comment that we have just opened an account in Lemmy and this is one of our first messages. Greetings to all! > > We believe it would be good to inform the users of this community about the status of the development of our Open Source Racing Simulator. > > Since a few months ago we are in the process of performing several tasks related to our version control system. It is our intention to stop using Subversion (svn) to start using Git. We believe it is a better and more modern system for the development of our project, and we think it can help to attract more developers than using Subversion. > > This change also involves a repository change. While Sourceforge (current) has support for git, we think we would be better off elsewhere, and for that the people behind [a-lec.org](https://www.a-lec.org/) have offered to host us with an instance of forgejo, as well as space for our website, our masterserver and possible things that may come later. You can find more info in [this post of our website](https://www.speed-dreams.net/en/blog/major-changes-in-the-speed-dreams-project). > > But to be able to do this it is necessary to make important changes in the structure of the project, and for this the code is being revised to facilitate the separation of the game base from the assets (tracks, cars, robots...). In addition, an audit of these assets is being carried out, which is taking quite some time. > > As for the development itself, **particles** (smoke, sparks, dust...) are being added in the OSG graphics engine, although this is still at a very early stage of development. > > We are also working on a **Download Manager** that allows downloading content from repositories, although this is giving us some headaches in the Windows build. > > A lot of work has been done on the LS-GT1, LS-GT2 and LP1 categories, with **new physics** (Simu 4.1), **new skins** and **improvements in the AI** of the robots. > > **New tracks** are also being worked on, such as Ardennen-Spa which you can see in the video below, Long Jour (former LongDay based on Le Mans) and the improvement of some tracks already included in the game. > > Perhaps most important, though, is the work being done on several fronts to **optimize the game's performance**, but this is an arduous task. > > For all this work, all possible help would be greatly appreciated, so, as always, we are open to receive both new developers and occasional contributions. > > As an example of this we leave you with a video in which we performed a USR robot race in the aforementioned Ardennen-Spa, where you can also see the first implementation of the particles. We hope you like it: > https://peertube.linuxrocks.online/w/31d4orqABsmwCGEsEpjpVf > > Cheers! > _________________________ > https://www.speed-dreams.net/ > _________________________

Pretty cool that they're doing a separate game like this. I wonder if there will be VR support.

This is me trying out the new dirt surfacesfx adjustments and rally tires in Custom Shaders Patch. It feels surprisingly good! And looks amazing, as AC usually does. And yes I crashed...

Title basically. I got a Fanatec (don't hate me for it ok?) CSL DD 8nm and I mostly play BeamNG with it. As everyone probably knows, this game has extremely unforgiving, dangerous and strong FFB, especially when going off road or crashing. I'm not a strong person so I don't hold the wheel very hard when driving. This means when ~~a skill issue~~ one of the above mentioned events happen, the wheel oscillates and vibrates quite hard. I do have interpolation and smoothening enabled but I don't want to crank it up too high in order to save details. So can the vibration significantly hurt the hardware? I'm planning to get a Clubsport QR1 soon to eliminate one of the concerns but I still don't know if everything else is going to be fine. I'm not able to repair or replace the hardware every few months after all
