Are people in cinemas getting worse?

Or is this old man shaking his fist at clouds?

The last couple of cinema experiences I've had have been awful: the usual culprits of people talking or going on their phone. Last night we were sat in the middle of three separate groups who wouldn't shut up through the whole film - despite being 'shushed' by other patrons and literally told to STFU by yours truely.

Seems to have gotten a lot worse post covid, like attention spans have just plummeted/films seem to have gotten longer. It's making me lose my love of going to the cinema.

Thoughts on this? Is it as bad as it ever was or has it gotten worse? Do the genres of films make a difference? Is there any solution to this (the missus and I were debating using our holidays to catch up on going to the cinema on work/term days, just to have a quiet theatre) -?
