I'll forget all about this post in about 5-7 lemmy posts. Higher than my normal 3-4 lemmy post memory-wipe because I'm commenting.

Yeah when I'd "disable" my right hand I'd have to wait for the weekends or homework that involved writing wouldn't be able to get done. You did this as an adult? That's dedication. I think in time anyone could adapt if they had to or could afford to be low-functioning for a while but I always wonder if there's shortcut steps to start rewiring your brain to not automatically assign tasks to your dominant hand.

I notice lefties. Im right-handed and when I was little and much dumber I wanted to be left-handed. So I did a bunch of weird shit to force it. Stuff like wrapping my right hand up for whole day, trying reverse controls for video games, wearing my watch on my right hand, etc. Some stuff did take, like the watch on my right hand, which ironically made my right hand more dominant. Being a lefty is the club that I was never able to join but think about subconsciously all the time I guess.

Have a '24 GSX R750. Brand new so I can't personally speak to longevity issues. That being said, Suzuki has kept this same bike since 2011 (trim changes only) which suggests it is a proven build. I think there was an upgrade to Brembo brakes a few years ago? But other than that it's essentially the same bike 2011-2024. Needless to say its been super easy finding/selling OEM and aftermarket parts for upkeep/upgrades. As a bonus, the GSX R600 is mostly identical to the 750 for parts swaps as well.

There's a series of "how to politely decline your stepsister's advances" by Ryan Creamer. I watched it with my son on Pornhub. Talk about a bonding moment.

So I've heard that if you appeal or request a rating change it essentially allows the VA to reassess ALL the issues you have a rating for. I'm not sure if this is something the VA might be doing for your case. Some medical issues have the potential to resolve so they might be re-examining those ones. Obviously use caution going into any C&P examination as there's a lot of errors, bias, and bad medical judgment that can occur.

I requested a rating change for an issue about 4 years ago. The exam was scheduled within a month via phone call and the decision came in about a month later. I did a BVA appeal and have been waiting since then to even get on the docket. So they're quick on some things but god forbid you have to appeal a crappy decision.

Sorry to hear that a VA decision might be a make or break point for you. Its good that youre aware of the DBQs though - many are not. Wishing the best for you OP.

  • Alabama hospital halts IVF after court ruled that embryos are “children” — Supreme Court decision means anyone who destroys embryos could be prosecuted criminally or face punitive damages

Okay. Don't stop there Alabama. So if an embryo is now a child, let's talk now about dependents and tax exemptions, protective services, custodial rights and responsibilities, welfare benefits, insurance requirements, HOV rules, census counts, adoption and fostering rules, school districts and education funds, estate planning and probate.... You wanted to open Pandora's damn box - now every piece of state legislation that involves a child now needs to be adjusted.

Might get interesting in the news as questions arise over what the new guidelines are. But of course they won't get addressed. Of course, of course.

I remember a few years ago on the other place that starts with "R", there were a bunch of people who were randomly sent seed packets from China. Big debate on whether they should plant them and if it would start the zombie apocalypse or not. Some planted them and it grew to be wildflowers...so far.

    TLDR: seeds

  • Just curious to see if any of you out there have been observing any trends that might lead to new motorcycle legislation - for better or worse. I noticed that for 2024 Nebraska surprisingly repealed their motorcycle helmet law making it optional for wear. Definitely raised an eyebrow as they still criminalize lane splitting. I try to stay on the optimistic side for lane filtering eventually passing here in Virginia but seeing how we are one of only two states where radar detectors are illegal, I think it's fair to say we may just stay in stasis for a while. Anyone else optimistic or pessimistic on new moto laws for this year?

Full details [here](https://www.delta.com/us/en/skymiles/medallion-program/2024-program-updates?mkcpgn=EM_MKTG_CPIN_CL_230911_AA901495_A01B_P0_BTN_73321821). In a nut shell: No MQMs or MQMs will be used for status earn, MQD only Status earn only through Delta flight purchase, Delta vacation/car rentals, or Delta AMEX card spend 1 x MQD for every $10 spent in Delta AMEX Reserve 1 x MQD for every $20 spent for Platinum 10 lounge visits per year for delta AMEX reserve starting in 2025 6 lounge visits per year for Platinum starting in 2025 No lounge visits for Platinum in 2024 These are huge changes that are going to hurt medallion members who make their status on the fringes. I know United raised their bar for status qualification this year so I wonder if this is response to that and/or the want to make their medallion statuses more elite again. During pandemic they made a lot of exceptions and relaxing of rules to keep their customer base while air travel was low and as a result, I was able to keep my platinum status for 3 years in a row with minimal traveling. I'm presuming many others were as well which likely leads to lounge overcrowding and high competition for upgrades. Part of me wonders if there will be some whiplash effect as a result from cardholders. To only earn 1 MQD for every $10 spent on a card that has a $550 annual fee is pretty egregious. Additionally, Delta has been typically at the top of the list for best rewards programs (usually behind Alaska) so I wonder how that will shake out as well. I personally think Delta feels it has earned enough of a reputation as an "elite" airline that it can sell an elite experience at a higher cost.

...or nieces or nephews, etc. I'm having these questions come up and I'm torn on this. On one hand my experience has been like no other- got a chance to see and do so many things, forged the best friendships, housing/education/medical benefits through the VA afterwards. But those cons - the higher odds for experiencing abuse, witnessing or performing horrifying things, etc...all the stuff that comes with lifelong damage.. What's everyone's take on this? Would you recommend the military for your kids?

I think this is a great idea but I can also see how some may view this as intrusive or a slippery slope with regard to personal medical information. Any downsides to this I might be overlooking?

Best semi-gourmet burger places in NoVa?

So far my go-to places are Hangry Burger in Springfield and the Big Buns Damn Good Burger spots. I'm kind of a fan of those brioche buns with the seared logo and all the fancy toppings that make you end up spending $20 on a burger. Any other recs?

I believe this should start up on August 1, 2023 but haven't found any good information yet on the VA or other useful sites. I attend brick and mortar, not virtual. Are they going up? Anybody have a good link?

WHY??? Had a radar detector in other states I've lived in and think this made me an overall more mindful driver about speeding. There's also evidence that the ban of these devices have no impact on speeding in general. More arguments in the link... What's everyone's thoughts on this? Are Virginia and Mississippi the two states that got it right?
