I don't have an epilator yet, but I spent some time with a tweezer plucking hairs on my hand and wrist. For those with epilators, how bad does it hurt compared to tweezing manually (which doesn't hurt too bad).

I was pretty distraught as well, both with the sudden occurrence and how the scene was played for laughs. It's a real shame, because I like the animation and character designs, but it was pretty clear from the second episode as well that the show is going to continue not taking this stuff seriously and being gross.

I know the article is a threadbare simile, but it more than misses the whole point of Galadriel's character in the books/movie. For even someone like Galadriel who meets this beyond-human ideal of beauty, purity and "goodness", the power of the One Ring to dominate life is so corrupting that it would simply turn her into a new Sauron. Which is why after failing to resist temptation, Galadriel leaves Middle Earth and goes into the West. If there's one point that is hammered in repeatedly throughout the Lord of the Rings, it's that such absolute power cannot be used for good, despite anyone's best intentions, and the only recourse is for it to be destroyed.

    >*They’ve made deals with Those Who Lurk Below to gain power over the world. They’ve poisoned the water. Polluted the air. Contaminated the soil. Sacrificed lives, stole resources, and made tons of money . They’ve done all of that and more. And nobody gives a shit. Drowning in goods and services, people are comfortable enough to ignore the nightmare. And ignorance is bliss. But the consequences are coming. The Deadline is looming over this reality. With each day, the end is closer and closer. They won’t stop. Welcome to the Real World* CORP BORG is a neat Mork Borg hack for the classic sub-genre of the demonic office space. The art is pretty neat, and while there isn't as much 3rd-party support as Mork Borg itself yet, I'm sure that will accrue and it shouldn't be hard to re-adapt other modules to the setting. I've always been fan of TRPGs where you play as decidedly unheroic, beleaguered schmucks (other favorite TRPGs include Delta Green and Electric Bastionland), it's certainly up my alley. I won't have a chance to run it for Halloween due to scheduling, but I hope to try out some one-shots in the near future (here or elsewhere).

Another inspiration for the punk outfit is that I was looking on Amazon for a choker that would fit me without an extender, and I found a set of studded ones with matching bracelets, so that's accounted for. For jewelry, where do you look/shop for that sort of stuff? As for earrings, I need to find a time to get my ears pierced by a reputable piercer, but I am also job hunting soon so I may wait a bit on that.

Customizing clothes sounds really fun! Will need to look into that.

Well, I have this (thrift shopped) black leather jacket. I was inspired by Vera Drew's outfit in this video (invidious link), and I was thinking of the same sort of mesh/fishnet shirt. I believe the tee is from Das Bootleg, so I could do that or another top. Would be fun to wear the mesh shirt over a brassiere or crop top, but I don't think I can pull it off right now due to belly fat. For the bottom, I was thinking cut-off black shorts (either denim or canvas) or a skirt. I have a skirt, and for the black shorts it should be easy enough to find either some shorts or pants to cut down. For shoes, it'd have to be some sort of black boots. Then I guess it's figuring out accessories.

Looking at that, idk how goth/punk that actually is. Laying it out, it certainly doesn't seem super ostentatious, but I also don't want to spend a ton of money since I am working on loosing weight anyways.

Aside: I almost got a mesh shirt a couple years ago when I put together a Harry Dubois cosplay for Halloween. In the future, Rule 63 Harry is a going to be fun. I still have the faux snake-skin heels for it.

Initial consult for my therapist went well! We scheduled a follow-up, and I am looking forward to it!

I also got a bra that fits. The cup is a bit big, but I have some sort of mastia due to my weight so I should be able to fill it out with some inserts. Idk how things are going to go as I lose weight/start HRT, but it's affirming for now. With that, I am working on assembling another outfit. I want to try something goth/punk. I will try to figure out some normal femme clothes eventually, but if it's in private for now then I might as well have fun as a baby trans. I also want to go to some metal shows again and it would be nice to not seem like a square.

  • What's there to see in the Northeastern US?
  • JohnBrownsBussy2 JohnBrownsBussy2 1w ago 100%

There's plenty of places to visit in the US northeast/mid-atlantic, but all those locations is a lot of ground to cover. You'll be driving for hours upon hours, and it might eat pretty hard into your sight-seeing time if you're only spending a week. For example, New Haven to DC would be a 7 hour drive! And that's in pretty nasty/aggressive traffic. If you're just getting your license, you do not want to be driving in NYC (or Boston).

For example, you could spend a week in D.C. alone: it would take days to experience the Smithsonian fully, and then you have all the other landmarks and museums and other attractions. Alternatively, New York City and Connecticut/New Haven would also fill a week.

The other thing to note is that if you're vacationing in the northeast, you may be able to avoid renting a car if you'd prefer. This is the only region of the country with decent inter-city train travel (Amtrak), and D.C. and NYC have well-developed subway metros.

With this project falling behind, and the reducing likelihood of delays in the Lunar Gateway/Artemis program, I think there's a good chance that NASA and the ESA will not have access to a space station following the ISS's decommission. It's not the only "public-private" partnership for an ISS successor, but I don't think the other candidates are making much progress either. I also thought that this quote was pretty amusing, and highlights the futility of trying to privately fund commercial station projects: >To bring in some much-needed cash, Axiom Space started selling seats for trips to the ISS on board SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft. >It was also awarded a NASA contract to fund a space suit for the first crewed mission to the lunar surface, Artemis III. >But the suit appears to have been a massive distraction — not to mention a major money pit — from its plans to build a space station. SpaceX trips to the existing orbital outpost were also not a sustainable solution to Axiom Space's woes. >"Turns out that there's not a lot of billionaires that want to set aside their life for 18 months to go train to be an astronaut for the ISS," a former Axiom executive told Forbes.

    >The lab is available to researchers 24/7, uses real human neurons and uses the Python programming language, creating a “dream bridge between biology and data scientists,” according to Jordan. >After accessing the provided login/password, researchers gain the ability to remotely send electrical signals to neurons and receive their responses. It is then the responsibility of researchers to devise optimal algorithms for controlling the behavior of the organoids. >Users can mimic memory function by using periodic electrical stimulation to reinforce synapses through repetition, thus making desired pathways stronger. >Researchers do this by training the organoids through a reward system. The organoids are rewarded with dopamine, the neurotransmitter responsible for pleasure (and addiction). >Meanwhile, as “punishment,” the organoids are exposed to chaotic stimuli, such as irregular electrical activity. >A live view of the biochips working in real-time can be found at www.finalspark.com/live. Still think it's kinda neat, but with clearly disturbing implications.

Due to a power issue, it looks like the lander may now no longer have sufficient fuel to make a controlled landing on the moon. This was the lander that was set to carry human remains to the moon despite objections from the Navajo nation. Hopefully, this discourages any future attempts at such a stunt, since instead of a permanent mausoleum your ashes may instead be stranded in orbit or scattered amongst the moon dust if the thing crashes.

I am still fascinated with The Product, even if I have no intention of purchasing or playing it. Still listening, but some interesting tidbits so far are Braces reiteration that he isn't (*legally*) making any money on the game, and that one thing that inflated the cost of the game were the legal fees to have it reviewed to make sure it wouldn't be actionable in court. He also confirmed that courting negative media attention was 100% intentional and part of the game's marketing strategy.

Hey folks, I've put out feelers before, but it's the new year and I wanted to look at offering to run some tabletop RPGs. Right now, I'm feeling pretty open system-wise (although would prefer the lighter-weight side of the hobby) and can help figure out schedule at some point. Also not necessarily looking for a long term commitment, but thought it might be fun to meet some folks and try out some games together.

Looks like they're scraping up some more copies somehow, but it looks like the game literally sold out within an hour or so of going live. Must have either been a very small print run, or there are more irony pilled folks willing to part with ~$80 for what looks like a kinda jank roll-and-move game than I thought. EDIT: Apparently the additional copies have also sold out. EDIT2: If you actually want the thing, it looks like they are accepting pre-orders for an another printing.

It looks like Microsoft's ambitions to completely cannibalize OpenAI is coming to pass. Apparently, Microsoft already has a perpetual license to all of OpenAI's IP ([link](https://stratechery.com/2023/openais-misalignment-and-microsofts-gain/)), and owned all the physical hardware running the OpenAI GPTs. So now that they're about to acquire basically OpenAI's entire staff OpenAI literally has nothing. I think the interesting angle is the anti-trust angle. The board's ouster of Altman has essentially allowed Microsoft to strip OpenAI for parts without having to compensate the other investors or receive anti-trust scrutiny. It is a massive win for MS.

Eclipse Phase is a d100 sci-fi/transhumanist/cyberpunk/post-apocalyptic/post-scarcity/horror RPG published by Posthuman studios. The game is a skill-based d100 game with some interesting dice mechanics and large trait and gear lists (think Shadowrun, but more streamlined.) The real draw of the game is its highly detailed and unique setting. The game takes place in the nearish-future (couple hundred years or so) after an uprising by super-intelligent AI led to earth becoming effectively uninhabitable and the development of new transhuman societies across the solar system. There are multiple campaign frameworks, but the most prominent/recommended has players as members of Firewall, a decentralized but secretive collective dedicated to protecting transhumanity from extinction (X-risks). A key development, one that drives both the setting and character creation, are morphs. Transhuman society is defined by the ability to transfer the human (and other sapient) consciousnesses through digital means, allowing the transfer of minds between bodies. In the corporate-dominated inner system, this has lead to the enslavement of millions of "infugees" people who were unable to evacuate their bodies off earth, only transferring their minds which are now indentured to the hypercorporations storing them. As the principles of faster than light travel have not yet been worked out (it's possible through mysterious alien gates), travel throughout the solar system is often accomplished by far-casting one's consciousness into new bodies on far-away planets and stations. This means that players will end up switching morphs throughout the campaign (as well upgrading into morphs to better fit the needs of their mission). While this was pretty darn complex in the 1st edition of the game, the 2nd edition streamlined the process immensely, along with other aspects of the game, mainly by introducing metacurrencies separate from the core skill system. While there are plenty of different morphs, ranging from non-mechanical bio-morphs, mechanical synths, and hybrid "pods," I wanted to highlight the uplifts (unfortunately, support for neo-whales is not in the core rulebook 😿). Overall, the game is very crunchy, but not as bad as Shadowrun. The authors are anarchists/socialists of some variety (I don't dig too deep into these things), and the anarchist and socialist factions in the setting are written as the good guys. The entire game is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, so game materials are actually 100% free/legal to share (DM me if you want a copy).

Mausritter is an OSR/NSR game in which you play as mice going on adventures (and often delving dungeons for treasure). While Mausritter's inventory is derived from Cairn (which derived its system from Knave), I have a soft spot for the Mausritter inventory slots based on how they fit nicely on the character sheet. I think this sort of inventory system is great for players learning how to play TTRPGs since it's so tactile and presents you with your tools in a clear manner. The conditions are also interesting, in that they steal inventory slots. Once you start accruing conditions or treasure, you have to make the decision whether to discard items, or to be encumbered and be at extreme risk from traps and ambushes. The game is free at itch.io: https://losing-games.itch.io/mausritter
