Your grandmother's sister is your grandaunt, and you use grand and great the same way you do for mother/father but with aunt/uncle.

So I think your fourth cousin twice removed was on the Thresher but someone may correct me.

They use some rather consumer unfriendly chemicals, like formaldehyde as others said, but also things like flame retardants, pest deterrents, anti molding agents etc to preserve the clothes if they're stored improperly. You should ALWAYS wash new clothes before wearing them, even ignoring the possibility of others having tried them on. Maybe consider another scent for your clothes.

Haven't seen anyone here recommend The Woman in Black (2012) which fits the atmospheric horror genre perfectly. Stars Daniel Radcliffe and I remember it as being quite good, with no gore and minimal cheap jump scares. I don't think the trailer is a good representation of it so that would be one to go into blind.

Yes, I have these great shallow bowls that are like plates with a raised lip at the edge that I always use for cat food. My old man has gotten ridiculously picky in his old age, and some of the things I had to do were:

    Change the style of bowls
Raise his bowl up so it was 1 1/2" off the ground
Separate his water away from his food
Find food with minimal vegetable matter (no pumpkin or pea even)
    Swap exclusively to wet food
Vary flavors every feeding (not just day, feeding)

Little booger eats better than I do most days, but he's no longer fur and bones and he's gained over half a pound back after being at his skinniest. He's got his energy back and is looking so much healthier, but seriously what a spoiled boyo.

  • If you were tasked to train/teach dolphins how to be artists and express themselves via creative expression, what method of doing so would you designate for them?

Dance, and music. It could probably be argued that dolphins already dance and don't need any extra encouragement. I bet a dolphin would love to play with a sound board that could play tones when buttons are pushed. Object arrangement, like someone else said. Sand patterns maybe. They can also interact with things out of the water too so painting isn't so ridiculous, they just don't have the dexterous appendages that elephants or chimps do.

Every kid is different, but if you're not able to ask the parents then a safe bet is a duplo set. Bristle blocks are also great. My kid is currently 2 1/2 so these are what I know would be hits with him and his friends.

You could also get one of the following books:

    Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site
    Don't Worry Little Crab
The Little Blue Truck (it's a whole series, the Halloween one would be appropriate)
Bear Snores On or any other book in that series.

I love Ranking of Kings. The art style really threw me off but I stuck with it. I appreciate how everyone has their own stories and motivations and all of the characters that enter the stage where you say "well that person is clearly the bad guy" becomes someone you understand and even admire later. The theme of the show is definitely that things aren't always what they seem, so err on the side of kindness. It's a good lesson.

Do you use fabric softener with your towels? Fabric softener conditions fibers with oils making them less absorbent. A good quality, plush cotton towel that has never seen fabric softener can be extremely absorbent, and if you do the two towel method someone else mentioned I bet that would really cut your drying time. If you used two good, absorbent towels in your hair, then blow dried, I bet it would only take a minute or so which is a lot easier to sit through.

I like Walz so it was frustrating to hear him tripping over his words and misspeaking. I think I heard him say he was friends with a school shooter, when I know he meant to say people effected by shootings. I felt that unfortunately Vance sounded clear and authoritative which will sway some people, despite being full of shit. One question Walz handled excellently was the one on abortion and reproductive rights. I just wish he had been that solid and aggressive and confident throughout the whole debate.

This is one is genre specific, but Caesar 3. I love city builders and have played them for as long as they've existed. I've learned all the little tricks and systems of the ones I've played, exploiting esoteric mechanics and optimizing my little utopias and creating epic, sprawling empires that far exceed every metric asked of me. That said, Caesar 3 is a challenge I still relish after (oh wow, has it really been) 25 years. It's the only city builder where the "peaceful" branch in the story is harder than the "wartime" scenarios. I revisited it recently wondering if I was just missing something back when I was younger, but nope. On the harder levels it asks you to sustain larger and larger populations with increasingly limited resources, and reaching the level of getting patrician housing (only achieved with sustained, stable access to literally every amenity) is extremely difficult but oh so satisfying. Every other city builder I've played, I barely have to think about every house becoming the top tier, but in Caesar 3 it's impressive if even a single block achieves it. It stands out even now after so many new entrants into the genre. Hell, it's still worth playing haha.

I've had to make the call on senior pets about four times now, and it's tough. Sometimes it's easier, when they're in visible and obvious pain and sometimes it's hard, when there's no one thing you can point to. The lovely home vet who helped my last senior kitty pass said it helps to keep track of the good days and bad days. If your pet is affectionate, playful, can get excited, that's a good day. If they hide, lie in quiet places and aren't interested in things they usually love then that's a bad day. When the majority of their days are bad days, it's time.

I wouldn't think your dog would have better care in a shelter, even if you're feeling guilty about being away a lot. Maybe there's a way to shift your schedule to have more time with your dog when he's most active, or maybe there's a local kid who wouldn't mind hanging out with your dog on certain days. It's worth exploring more options because a shelter will almost certainly be a worse experience for him.

I've been extremely impressed with the longevity and all around toughness of my Dell Precision. I think it's gotta be 12 years old now, it weighs a ton, been dropped multiple times, and while I replaced its disk and memory at some point it has never suffered a hardware failure. The thing is a tank, I love it.

The one I eat most often is overnight oats, just steel cut oats and whole milk with some fruit if I have it. Favorite to eat is probably bananas foster french toast made with home made brioche. Nothing like starting your day with a brown sugar, caramel and rum sauce haha.

Oh is that the term for it? I've been calling it "super smooth scrambled eggs" which doesn't adequately describe the texture. Egg curds is pretty close but it's almost like a creamed egg. So soft and fluffy, I like to add cream cheese into it while it's cooking and serve it on toast with melty cheese and a bit of tomato salsa. Yum!

  • One of my favorite home made flavors is MANGO! Don't try to tell me it should be a sorbet, I don't care. Makes about 2qts Ingredients: 1 cup light cream 2 cups mango puree or blended frozen mangos 3/4 cup white sugar 4 tbps mango or coconut rum (~12% alcohol) ~3/4 cup whole milk In a blender, add about 2 1/2 cups of frozen mango chunks and the 1 cup cream and blend until smooth. Add some milk as needed for blending. You should end up with approximately 3 cups of a mango and cream mixture. Pour it into an 8 cup "batter bucket"*. Add the sugar and rum and stir until the sugar is dissolved and you no longer feel grains (can take a minute). Add the milk to get the mixture up to the 4 cup line of the batter bucket, approximately 3/4 cup. Stir, and once it's a homogeneous color pour into a 2qt ice cream maker to churn. It should be in a soft serve state within 15min if you used frozen mango, or 20-25min if you used a mango puree. Remove from ice cream maker when it's the consistency of soft serve frozen yogurt and scoop into containers of your choosing. Allow it to firm up in the freezer for a few hours. *it's a giant measuring cup that also works as a mixing bowl and it's immensely useful for ice cream making and anything else where you need to end up with a finished product that has to be poured. The alcohol helps keep the ice cream from freezing too hard since this recipe doesn't have as much fat. The mango rum I use is by Cruzan and personally I can't taste it in the ice cream, but serve to kids at your own discretion.

Found myself starting to think about trying some new thing that sounded cool, and realized it might be fun to think about all of the random interests, crafts, hobbies and pursuits I've chased on tangents to my life. It's easy to feel like a bum or a failure for dropping hobbies and that could cause hesitation in starting something new, but on sheer volume I bet some of us have impressive lists. Requirement is that it never made you real dependable income and wasn't a career for you. Aside from that, sky is wide open. It can be something you tried for a few weeks, years, or still do. What's your trail of hobbies?
