    That's fair.

I'm a massive nerd for level design, and in my mind massive sprawling (especially proceedurally generated) maps/levels are a scourge on modern gaming.

I don't think it's hugely controversial, but I view E1M1 as possibly one of the best levels ever designed. But then again I also view Doom as more like a dungeon crawler RPG that just happens to be first person and real time, so who knows?

I think I also tend to be more into simpler games than ones with too many bolted on systems, which might also be why I tend to favour older ones (or indie ones).

Maybe that's the point? Newer Doom games aren't especially top tier FPSs, and you can find better examples of them (Bioshock (not so modern anymore), the alien-dinosaur-robot spaceship thing, and probably others). So they don't make the list, and then Doom holds the classic place and genre defining status. (Hexen and Strife were never gonna make the list).

I agree that Super Mario Bros could do with a new lick of paint (and think Nintendo has given it more than a few of them) to bring it up to par. Doom, I'm less sure needs updated graphics, but I don't think it'd hurt if it kept everything else the same.

(Favourite Doom levels are probably E1M8, E2M9, and some D2 and TNT and Plutonia levels I can't call to mind off the top of my head.)

I've come to the conclusion I'm incredibly biased on this matter and also that you're entitled to your own opinion, and appreciate that you've responded kindly and patiently.

Have seen a lot of stolen bikes in my town, and my brother's front wheel was nicked last week, and he sent me a forks down photo.

I also noted that as a detail for the police report part. But missed out on checking for cctv or the like. Which is odd as I usually clock them, amongst other things in physical spaces in day to day life.

The first Lemming you replied to here.

I don't disagree with you in that post.

But I think that for that unemmeshment to work we'll have to end Capitalism first. Once that's done small scale local communities with large scale networks for sure could do a good job with education and roads.

    You sound unsure.

What are your specific feelings on Knee Deep in the Dead level design? Do you enjoy inventory management?

What're your views on original Super Mario?

    In which aspects?

I think the level design holds up incredibly well, and in fact is an example of what to do. It's also not overencumbered by modern bloat.

    Have you played it?

    1. White/colourless ball. And honestly, more of a circle viewed from a perfect side on angle.
    2. I didn't visualise a person only the effect of their push on the ball. And like another poster corrected the slide to a roll.
    3. See above.
    4. Ball was of uncertain size. It was viewed side on, and no other objects to give a sense of scale. Maybe tennis ball sized, but I think that's retroactive.
    5. Table was rectangular and wooden. But no legs. Unsure of the thickness.

Included the timely-ness of the details in my answers above.

Mostly agree... Not sure why you think it's limited to Western countries though unless you're including India and China as well as Japan as Western.

And since it's a feature of Capitalism, I don't imagine the rest of the world is immune to it.

Only when not looked at on a global scale (such as 1% owns 99% being assumed to be about the USA rather than global wealth). Mormengil's opening response is very feels over facts (also the claim that there was no state support for the poor can be technically true, but churches and local elite as well as royal dictat were often involved in poor relief and charity in the Middle Ages), the later response are better detailed.

And in the 1200s, global wealth inequality and access to food was for much of the world better or comparable to where it is now.

But global wealth inequality and access to food got worse after colonisation rearranged American and then African economies for European, and then USAian, benefit.

AI is already filled with implicit bias towards the current status quo. It can be very tricky to get AI chatbots to give anything other than platitudes about inequality, and they're often very quick to try to shut down or redirect talk of system change. To think that they'll not reflect continued post colonial and extractivist systems of power seems, to me, shortsighted.

  • How did you all get on at your prereleases? Looks to be a synergy set as despite opening Lumara, Maha, and almost one of each of the reanination spells in the set I went 2:1. =ł ah well. Matched up against a fun deck blinking Head of the Homestead with the token class enchantment. Luckily it doesn't do well against Vren the Relentless. On the other hand it turns out that Azure Beastbinder is a top tier threat, and synergy can beat power. Still I can't complain about opening chase cards. What about all of you? Any fun interactions or moments from your prerelease?

Which decks leaving with rotation this autumn are you sad to see go? For me there are two big ones: Rakdos Anvil and Mono-Blue Cauldron Combo. Rakdos Anvil has been able to turn into Mardu Warleader's Anvil, which can kill out of nowhere with Ojer Axonil. It's a lot of fun to play, but yes not a tier one deck at the moment. Gets wrecked by Temporary Lockdown, unfortunately; but still does alright if not great. Mono-Blue Cauldon Combo is, in my opinion, more consistent than the GU Culdron Combo that remains. It can be surprisingly aggressive as a plan B in case oppo is focused on disruption, and with new additions from MKM (Forensic Researcher) and OTJ (Harrier Strix) is more powerful and consistent than even. Does very well on ladder, but is a bit of a hassle to play on Arena, because infinite mana isn't handled well at all. That might be why it seems unexpected and steals a lot of wins. Doesn't actually get wrecked by Temporary Lockdown, because you can bounce it at end of turn and get all the combo pieces back and then just go off. But what about all you other Standard Appreciaters? What decks are you sad to see go at rotation?

Anyone manage to win with either of the artifact decks (Token Resistance and Artifact or Fiction)? The others all seem to go hugely over the top, or just trample over them each time I try to play them.

BBRR 5/5 rare legendary dragon scorpion rogue Flample (flying, trample). Sac 3 creatures: put a creature card from your hand onto the battlefield. Activate at sorcery speed, and only once per turn. Kinda underwhelming, despite the somewhat unique ability. Still, 5/5 flample for 4 is very good. Edit: totally assumed the card was mythic, that'll teach me to post when I'm tired. This is much more influential in limited then.
