There are only two options based on this statement and calling them out will violate community rules.

Sorry, I know it and everyone else on this platform knows you're making this up.

If you did vote third party in this election you actively voted for the party that is legislating (and has already succeeded in some states) to remove school lunches. We know you know this.

Now fuck right off with your lies.

When there is nothing at stake for you you have the luxury of voting third party. That is essentially a vote for Trump. We know you know this because it's been explained to you in every post. Must be nice having all that privilege.

The rest of us, in the meantime have to live with the consequences of your decision. As parents, as students saddled with debt, as members of every minority community under attack, as children whose school lunches are being taken away, as children of DACA: a very hearty fuck you from the bottom of our hearts.

Well, I guess its all hunky dory then. Good on central planning! I'm familiar with the essay and the thesis. I just find this penchant for cherrypicking the parts of history we like not very productive for analysis. Thanks anyway.

Where did that industrialization originate...? You guys want all the benefits and innovations of western capitalism but will assume no responsibility for the failures incurred by the processes that overlapped with said rapid industrialization. Yes, it was a great feat that so much of an agrarian population was lifted by mechanization but at what cost? You'll never address that part of the equation.

There is nothing wrong with being pro Marxist. All the more power to you and engaging politically. The issue is you guys -- at least here on social media and forums -- seem unable to divorce any conversation from marxist-leninist theory. Every discussion, topic, analysis is exclusively locked in this worldview because you've decided fervently that this is the ultimate frontier for humanity and anyone that slightly disagrees with this perspective is a capitalist neo-liberal bootlicker that needs to be flogged and burned on the stake.

    Every time. Every. Single. Time.

Nothing you said necessarily contradicts what I wrote. These are lofty ideas. We should all be striving for ultimate justice. Native Americans should have their lands returned; descendants of slaves should have economic reparations; and so forth.

But how far do we turn back the clock and what is the net benefit? At some point you have to pick a time stamp and freeze history. Otherwise we could sit here endlessly picking arbitrary points to restore the time machine.

But maybe instead of focusing so much on the what we should be focusing on the how. Ultimately everyone wants some measure of justice. Talk to Palestinians or Jews: each will have a different interpretation or vision of justice means to them. But how do we get there?

kids born to settler privilege are supposed to give the land back.

Ok. How are you going to accomplish that exactly? What does this sentiment or statement accomplish in terms of ending the current suffering that is happening? I'm not sure I understand what these declarations are intended to convey or who the audience is?

I think it's trying too hard to be Star Wars - 21st century edition. Villeneuve's strength is that he can make the weird engaging and palatable while keeping that edge. There just wasn't enough weirdness in the Dune movies to set it apart. The cinematography and production were great but overall felt underwhelmed. Even 2049 had enough interesting compelling weird elements. I understand he's under immense pressure from the studio to do his thing so I can't fault him either.

Oh interesting. Yes, I agree. There is for sure a strong fantasy element in Dune. It would be impossible to divorce it from that. I think Villeneuve maybe leaned too far in the sci fi futuristic aesthetic. I found a lot of the Villeneuve Dune costumes quite uninspiring, but then again I have a lot of criticisms of that series.

Even if all of what you're saying is true (it's not), the clock of time is not going back. The founding of the United States is built on the spilled blood of native Americans. What are kids born in the US today supposed to do? This type of clinging to the past to justify any contemporary analysis is the reason things aren't moving forward.

I love Moebius as an artist, but I think these are stylistically too captured by the 70s fantasy genre. It's possible Jodorowsky had a heavy hand in this since he wanted to go the whole super Christ god being with the narrative. If you look at Moebius other work The Metabarons it's far more futuristic and inventive.

  • My experience on this platform has been mixed so far but one thing I've noticed the most is a significant contingent of the user base is **really** reactionary in their discourse. This is a very typical exchange I have here : >User: I don't like this color because it's red. >Me: I don't know, looks more like purple to me. What about red is bad? >User: Why don't you fuck yourself in the face you fucking cuntfuck! >Me: OK... Like, what gives? I don't have this experience on other platforms. I have arguments but never this shutdown meccanism.

I don't know if others are experiencing a similar situation. My **all** feed is very sparse with engagement. If I sort top six hours or by top 12 most posts have between 5-10 comments. I feel like there was more in the past? Is engagement dropping off? I'm on lemmy.world as my instance.

At least on Reddit there was some leveling of downvotes built into the algorithm. This site is making it seem like any slight disagreement leads to downvotes thus encouraging more echo chambers. Maybe it's the communities I'm commenting on?
