Well, older people telling kids what are the limitations on how the world can change is not new and has shown historically to be of little epistemological value.

Did not know you were also heavily involved in another project that I have relied on for many years now. For my part it really serves to show how few people in the open source space can really make an impact on other people's lives. Obligatory thank you for your effort o7. It mattered to me.

I substitute æ, ø and å with ae, oe and aa because it gives me trouble writing code. Does the programming language I write in and almost everything else support UTF-8: Yes. Does some obscure thing always fuck up the encoding of special characters: Yes.

Especially converting files and moving them between different OS sucks.

This is kinda what my joke is about, taking the parent comment "seriously" because someone, an American I presume, did not take encoding seriously once sometime and now fucks up my workflow for eternity.

ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange)

I guess I should refrain from writing text in my own language using non-ASCII symbols due to American exceptionalism and piety.

I am living in a liberal (social) democracy and can give numerous reasons as to how and why it is currently failing, even as it is internally miles ahead of any shithole capitalist hellscape such as the US. Goals and ideals matter if they are based upon a factual understanding of material reality.

I am much more interested in a qualitative argument about socialist policy founded on proper material conditions, rather than what you deem to be the historical, and thus I infer the inevitable future, truth of a socialist system.

I am also not going to engage with effort if I do not see some effort in return, which I really do not at the moment.

The only wealth redistribution they allow is from the poor to the rich. Bonus points if they can:

    1. Increase tax pressure on the poor.
    2. Make it so the poor vote for tax cuts.
    3. Hand out said tax cuts to the rich.
    4. Profit from "donations".

The liberal play book is so dumb and yet so effective.

EDIT: To all those that got offended by the dunk on liberals, consider this: When did your liberal government in practice and in a meaningful capacity increase tax pressure on the rich and allocate the increased funds to the benefit of the poor? Also, if you are not for more equitable redistribution of wealth, what are you even doing in this community?

There is absolutely a corrolation between being stupid and being a neo-nazi. However, in this regard smart people are even more dangerous since they are not only capable of fooling themselves but others as well.

I detested differential equations. However, that was more due to how it was presented than the underlying, surprisingly, beautiful math.

The only problem with courses like calc 3 and differential equations (in my experience, as a mathematician) is that they are cheating somewhat. By cheating I mean relying on inadequate, flawed or entirely omitted proofs. How can the students truly understand something if they are not presented the whole story (or at least reference)?

The good thing about these courses are that there are usually no shortage of relevant exercises!

I can do one without doing the other. I am an atheist and do not care for religion at all. However, that does not mean I blame Jews for something another group, the Zionists, think and do. Sure there is an overlap and corrolation, but the same is also very much true for the US Christian nut jobs along with others.

If you are going to label people and reject them on the basis of their label, make sure to label them right.

  • The bourgeoisie in my country have pushed the euphemism of "working capital" as something that needs protection from wealth tax. By inseparably connecting capital with jobs, they push the narrative that you cannot tax wealth without removing jobs and consequently hurting the working class. They paid for research groups to prove this connection, but what their research actually showed was that wealth tax creates jobs due to incentivizing keeping profits within the companies they own. The audacity to think owning the means of production is a privilege they should enjoy special treatment to keep is beyond me, but even so, this type of rhetoric keeps gaining ground. What is the propaganda they are pushing on you, and how can socialist policies prevail if reason loses to made up words changing the narrative?
