You can definitely sand it down, depending how far off the surface it broke that might take quite a while as ceramic is a really tough material. Then again that should take off the anxiety to destroy anything in that regard. With enough care even a grinder can be used to aid you in this process.
Depending on the desired visibility of the repair you can then paint over with good quality acrylic paint matchinf colours or going the extra mile to take your chances to append on the original design of the cup with some fun little motive, extending the personal story and connection to the piece in the philosophy of kirigami.
However you might decide to do this, I would be very happy and interested to see your results here on the magazine in a follow up post. Wish you all the best with your project.
Some quick darning on beloved gudetama underpants
A bit more invisible and at the same time messy than usual, but a fixed hole none the less.

Pretty nice work, reminded me of the sashiko section of one heavily mended shirts. Just posted if you wann have a look :)
Thank you for engaging here in this magazine. I'm super excited about the first contribution here apart from my works! Hope to see more from you, happy mending!

This part was fixated through my first try with the shashiko approach.

Really nice! Is it naturally blue zircon you've got there or was it heat-treated?

Let's see some zircon!
Fitted stitch into the creases already existing on the cuff of one of my hoodies
To keep this magazine active just showing off older work of mine. This was one of my first fixes and I still like it a lot and it's holding up really well.

Not too visible but in the spirit of mending. Went for a metallic silver thread for some extra shine for some visibility in comparison to plain white stripes on pants [Detail of fixed hole](https://media.kbin.social/media/bd/06/bd06db6635da9e75b74513348669e3fce1c83384f1e52d4bea1f255dde9b76a6.jpg) [Snapshot of hole before fixing up](https://media.kbin.social/media/b3/ef/b3ef0d23fbe624d3aa20ae55db040d4b6a7d870ee55c16e40a506ab6137bbe9e.jpg)
With quite a few holes to fix on these sweatpants I went for some larger space themed mends: * [a rocket](https://media.kbin.social/media/60/48/60486e2f66941134522ff8fe07fe7eccac423d1348ba9e9f49ee6131e4fc3e72.jpg) * [a planet](https://media.kbin.social/media/28/47/284783d94f324f0fabbf4b15690ceae0da67bd0ede7538f2b107ff543c0d4e5f.jpg) * [a UFO beaming up a cow](https://kbin.social/m/visibleMending/t/146199/Space-themed-swearpants)
