Great write up! Definitely going to point this to people who ask me about how fed stuff works

  • [@selfhosted](https://lemmy.world/c/selfhosted) Stick with Mastadon account or move over to Lemmy instance? I'm currently self hosting my own mastadon instance, and noticed I can use the same account to post to Lemmy as well using mentions and the fediverse. Is anybody else using mastadon to post to their lemmy instances? Would it make more sense to host a lemmy instance instead if I intent to post to lemmy more often than mastadon? Let me know your thoughts.

This is why I think having your own instance is smart. I've been using each platform as "islands".

Each instance has it's own tab in my browser, and I exclusively sort by local. When I want to chime in, I reply to posts using Mastadon. Pretty easy if you don't mind copy pasting links.

I feel like normie fed-based socials need to start going live like bluesky so people can finally get off these shitty platforms. We need a leader in the federation space.
