Running Kitty the past year and a bit and really like it. Used to run into weird laggy issues with other terminal emulators, but Kitty runs like a beast for me.

So what you want to know is: if i have a very negative attitude towards Italian people, can i support my wife in putting as much tabasco on her pizza?

I guess we are sort of in the same boat, and will keep off for now from using Proton Pass. :)
ff0000 2mo ago • 100%
That i do know, it's more, the features in Proton Pass, and wanting (or not) a bunch of different services at a single company. And daily usage and support (Linux clients etc).

That is literally not the question. I never mention LastPass nor Bitwarden.

Literally not the question
A bit of context: I am a long time user of Proton (5+ years, Unlimited user) services. I am also a long time user of 1Password (since 2016). Understandably I have hundreds of items currently in my 1Password account, and a safe work flow on my devices with that. Would it make sense to start moving those entries to Proton Pass (as it is included) and be off a bit cheaper, or keep them separated as to not throw all the eggs in the Proton basket? Ideas, thoughts, tips or experiences?

My brain is not wired to be proud of things (chase the process!).
But i think achievements that I would put on my resume of life:
- Smoked for 15 years, quit, now 10+ years, nifty to think of. (i like number go up)
- Still alive even though i never thought that would happen a lot of times in my life, keep on keeping on
- I have released a bunch of cool music with other people and it has been a 'getting out of hand' hobby also for the past 15+ years
- Up until now haven't screwed up the next generation bonus-mini-me, today was their first day in high school, so pretty proud of them (not my achievement though, i just supported along the way).

That is a great achievement, and a good looking one as well! One i haven't yet reached!

So how many days do you take a year? As the other comments also touch upon, it becomes an outperform thing with co- workers, to take the least amount to "perform better". Also how easy and often do managers then deny requests?
With a fixed set it has an actual value, at the company they can't deny PTO's as they are yours. Of course planning comes into play a little bit, but if you let the company know that 2 months from now you take 4 weeks off for a good long summer holiday, that is what you will be doing then in those 2 months.
ps. I have 25 personal paid days, a bunch of public holidays. Doctor's appointments are on the 'please try to schedule them outside working hours if possible, otherwise, well, that's life, you need to visit that doctor'. Full travel reimbursement (fixed amount per month, can spend however i want), A lot of secondary items in my contract as well dealing with having to take care of partner / children if they become sick (is paid time off), etc etc.

I love this watch! Just wear it and forget, never thinking about having to charge it. One thing that i miss is a vibrating motor for the alarm. I know other models have that, but i miss it on this one.

Which is totally true! That's why I don't want the discussion of which is the best, but: what are you using, and why, to give options.

For Reaper and Ableton as well, you pay only when there is a new major release and you want to get that, but no subscriptions.

Composing is being on a whole different level with how you approach music! And with the availability of software instruments it has become within reach of a single person to create like that.

Thanks a lot! This really points me in a direction to start looking into more specifics. I do bring my own kit as much as possible (left handed drummer using a rack), and one of our sound engineers brings his mics as well, so sometimes we have that luxury.
But to purchase a decent set of mics that are at least the minimum quality of what a regular venue has would also set us back quite some money right? I do love the autonomy of it!
How hard (or annoying) would it be for the house mixer to patch it through? Is that something that can easily be done when it's known in advance?
And in terms of how standard it is, i have talked to other musicians as well, and this seems the general direction to go with, some add a bunch of other things as well (backing tracks, drum triggers, full song clicktracks etc).

Both offering endless possibilities! Although i do like the advancement in software synthezing there is something just better about directly manipulating sound through mechanical means.

Do you play live with mostly acoustic instruments, or is it analogue synths / sequencers? Because then you don't need a DAW. Easiest way to describe it is with the artist LOOK MOM NO COMPUTER. Not sure if you can use that as a verb though. 😁

I have been using Addictive Drums 2 for years now. They have some very nice and heavy kits! I trigger it from my drumkit through midi.

this is their most metal kit they offer!

We all use it for different things! For live playing I used Ableton with a midi controller to trigger a simple sample once. Normally we don't do those, so it was thrown together with what i had lying around.
Garageband is awesome to just do that stuff! This topic is not about bashing DAW's, but sharing the cool stuff, and why, and how you use it.
Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). At some point you might want to record some of the music you have been playing. Of course you can hold your phone next to your guitar and record, and at times you don't need more than that. But what if you want to do a bit more, actually record a full song, or multiple layers of instruments. That's when DAW's come into play. What are some of your favorites? What are the ones that in specific cases do a thing really good, but in other scenarios not so much.
Your classic introduction (with a twist) topic. What instruments do you play, or what do you want to start playing?
So to start this community with a question I have myself. A little bit of context: I am a drummer, and for shows currently using a [Behringer in-ear system](https://www.thomann.de/intl/behringer_powerplay_p1.htm) where I will get a mono or stereo xlr as input. This is already a lot better than having to rely on the wedge and I have a little bit of control over at least the volume. The rest of the band is currently using the wedges. I would like to upgrade this setup a bit to have more control over what i will hear on my in-ears, and be it more consistent for every show. Next step would be to get the other members to also use it. Any recommendations on what would be a good starting point that is not immediately breaking the bank, but can be expanded over time and gives us that control. + The band consists of 5 people. (1 drums, 2 guitars, 1 bass, 1 vocals) + We bring our own sound engineer to shows + price range around ~ 1000 euros
I created a new community for musicians. To create a place where the more technical and logistical aspects of being a musician can be discussed. Topics like: live rigs, hearing protection, song writing over the internet, your favorite DAW etc. Come and join! !musicians@lemmy.ml
Welcome to the musicians community! You play an instrument, you are a musician. This community is focused on the creative and technical aspects of being a musician. Good brands of guitars to play, how to create music outside of the rehearsal space, your vocalist won't stop snoring on the tour bus. That kind of stuff.
UPDATE: running `pnpm run translations:generate` (and also the other translations tasks, just to be sure) fixed the issue. --- When trying to setup a local Lemmy instance (for development), the `lemmy-ui` repository throws an error when trying to start the dev server. I followed the guide: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/contributors/02-local-development.html When running `pnpm dev` to start the dev server, it presents me with two errors: ```bash ERROR in ./src/shared/services/I18NextService.ts 14:0-40 Module not found: Error: Can't resolve '../translations/en' in '/home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/services' resolve '../translations/en' in '/home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/services' using description file: /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/package.json (relative path: ./src/shared/services) using description file: /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/package.json (relative path: ./src/shared/translations/en) no extension /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en doesn't exist .js /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en.js doesn't exist .jsx /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en.jsx doesn't exist .ts /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en.ts doesn't exist .tsx /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en.tsx doesn't exist as directory /home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/translations/en doesn't exist @ ./src/shared/dynamic-imports.ts 6:0-69 48:17-41 @ ./src/server/index.tsx 16:0-65 47:2-22 ERROR in ./src/shared/services/I18NextService.ts 159:43-129 Module not found: Error: Can't resolve '../translations' in '/home/ff0000/workspace/lemmy/lemmy-ui/src/shared/services' @ ./src/shared/dynamic-imports.ts 6:0-69 48:17-41 @ ./src/server/index.tsx 16:0-65 47:2-22 webpack 5.91.0 compiled with 2 errors in 14393 ms ``` I do see that these files nor the folder exist where I18NextService is trying to locate them. But i also see in the root a `lemmy-translations` folder. I am able to get it sort of working by updating the paths in I18NextService, but i guess that is not the preferred approach.

I am trying to create a filter within Proton Mail, that adds a label 'mailing list' whenever Proton marks an email as from a mailing list. It doesn't seem so easily possible as far as i can tell and I don't have the time (or will at the moment) to try and create it with a Sieve filter. Is there an easy way to do this? ![](https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/1ab5cc39-1599-4a83-8950-ca31a5e4d460.png)
I'm trying to get rid of my Google dependency and one of those steps was moving over to Protonmail. Now in the past few days i have been picking up signals that even Protonmail is not as clean as it might be. Does this really impact the privacy of how i use email and so is moving to Protonmail a step forward from Google, or is Protonmail just as bad? If so, what could be alternatives? ------ edit: Some of the alternatives being mentioned in the comments are: Email: - [Tutanota](https://tutanota.com/) - [CTemplar](https://ctemplar.com/) - [Disroot](https://disroot.org/en/services/email) - [Riseup Email](https://riseup.net/en/email) VPN: - [Mullvad](https://mullvad.net/en/) - [Riseup VPN](https://riseup.net/en/vpn) edit 2 (2023): There seems to be some new activity around this post. At the time of writing the post (2 years ago) there were some stories going as user @UnfortunateShort described in their comment. This made me question the best options available at that moment. Currently i am still a Proton user, using their Mail and Calendar service, and Mullvad for VPN.
