Deep house, tech house, house (Chicago and Garage), minimal, techno. I started out on trance and progressive house, then I discovered deep house. Deep Dish was my biggest influence, followed by Steve Lawler, Dave Seaman, Miguel Migs, and a bit of the old masters like Marshall Jefferson and Larry Levan himself. Sadly I haven't had equipment in almost 10 years, but I was last doing everything with the Traktor Kontrol S4, which does most everything in one neat device with included software. I started out back in the day with two Technics SL-1200 Mk3G's, a Vestax 4 channel mixer, and a little effects box (I forget the model). I never got into using reel-to-reel for loops like the OGs did, but thankfully with the software and digital decks we have now, you can sample, chop, loop, etc., on the fly in real time.
I gotta say, as someone that started out back when turntables were the norm and CDJs were just coming on the scene, having watched the technologies evolve, beatmatching is almost all but a thing of the past. Trust me, if our house music forefathers didn't have to worry about having to do it manually, they wouldn't have. They would have loved to be freed up to do other things like loops, samples, juggling, and even playing an instrument(s) live over the track(s). So anybody that's still talking shit about it is dumb. I dunno, maybe nobody cares anymore, which, would be good, but like I said, I haven't been in the scene for a while. I do miss it, but it's expensive to get back so I just listen and reminisce.

After printing you have to not only trim the extra bits, but you have to sand it down, whereas manufacturers use molds and only have to trim the seams.
The only lyrics I can remember are, "I still chop my weed up on album covers." Pretty sure it's from the 80s or 90s. Early 00s at the latest. I try to search online and no matter what search engine I use, I just get results for weed pictures and vinyl.
Fedora KDE Plasma spin - I have scoured the net and just cannot get this fucking pos to work via bluetooth. I tried both xone and xpadneo, and neither does anything. The controller is recognized and will "connect", but it does nothing and the Xbox light continues to flash as if it's not connected. I have HID enabled, and while xpadneo is supposed to disable ertm, I did it manually just to be sure and it still doesn't work. I'm fucking pissed. The only thing I've ever had this much trouble getting to work on Linux was music production softwares. Please help!
My wife just got me a "moleskine" (it's not name-brand, but good quality for the price) and a fountain pen (Zebra V301 FP). I absolutely love them and it has reignited my interest in fountain pens and pocket notebooks, but I'm at a loss as to what to write anymore. I've been wanting a pocket notebook to increase my security with complex passwords, but that only takes up a few pages. I wrote a few quotes in it, but I don't want to fill it with cheesy cliches. I suck at drawing, so I'm not even going to try doing that in ink lol. I need a pencil to practice with, and I want to use this pen. I'm having a hard time coming up with inspiration for something cool to put in this thing. Any ideas are appreciated.

So I got sick of how bad DDG browser is, so I finally switched back to FF and kept DDG just for app tracking blocking. I have uBO added and all set up. The pages are now beautiful. It's like a whole new internet! However, when I click on links in apps, it doesn't open directly in FF, some sort of Intermediary browser (run by FF) opens the page with a menu that has the option to "Open in Firefox". FF is my default browser. Everything is set to not open links in-app. How can I make this stop and the links open directly in FF?
So I've been using DDG on my phone for a while now, but it seems to be rapidly enshitifying. The only thing I like about it at this point, is that it blocks app trackers. The browser and search suuuuuuuck, so I've got Firefox back on it with uBlock Origin. So my questions are these two: What can I use to block app tracking like DDG does, so I can get rid of DDG? And is the ClearURLs addon for FF good/safe/does what it's supposed to? If not, what is?
I come from an era when, if you paid for something, you owned it. I'm done with being nickel and dimed by subscriptions, and I've never been ok with my data being bought and sold. I am by no means a "power user", but I'm not a dribbling idiot, either. Back in the late 90s I learned QBasic, Visual Basic, a little C++, HTML, and I've tinkered with basic Javascript. Now I've seen a lot of post here on Lemmy, and I've looked around the net, and I've found some great resources to start learning the ropes, but I don't want to waste my time learning the "wrong" things (ie- a system I'll end up not using). First things first: what distro should I even go with? I've seen a lot of negativity towards Ubuntu on here, while it seems everyone's is elitist with Arch. Reading up on it, it seems like Arch *is* the way to go because it gives you complete control over what is in your system (which is what I really want). That being said, I want it to play nice with what I need it to do, which is primarily gaming (though I am looking into getting a Steam Deck), audio/video (pretty much all aspects from just watching/listening/streaming, to production and editing), email/web browsing, and your typical basic bitch computer use (word processing), with maybe a little hobbyist programming on the side. Please let me know what you would recommend, why you recommend it, and any other helpful info you can think of!
