    This is particularly wild:

Nowadays, four different ant groups cultivate four types of fungi. Some insects even influence how the fungi grow so they can produce certain nutrients.

“When we cultivate them in the lab, the fungi take the expected form of hyphae. However, inside the colony, one of these hyphae types becomes swollen and forms structures similar to grape clusters, rich in sugars. We still don’t know how the ants do this,” Kooij explains.

The asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs also brought opportunities for new life. Scientists have found that after the asteroid wiped out many plants, ants started farming fungi to help them survive and get the food they needed in tough times. The meteor impact 66 million years ago created a low-light environment that allowed fungi that fed on organic matter to survive, as many plants and animals died. Additionally, the dust in the skies made it difficult for plants to undergo photosynthesis — converting light energy to make food. With the spread of fungus, researchers found it allowed fungus-farming ants to thrive in these dark times. The findings preview the start of the mutualistic relationship shared between several fungi species and ants. “The origin of fungus-farming ants was relatively well understood, but a more precise timeline for these microorganisms was lacking. The work provides the smallest margin of error to date for the emergence of these fungal strains, which were previously thought to be more recent,” says study co-author André Rodrigues, a professor at the Institute of Biosciences of São Paulo State University (IB-UNESP) in Brazil, in a media release. The study is published in the journal Science. Researchers studied the genetic remains of 475 fungal species cultivated by ants from all over the Americas. They narrowed their focus on ultra-conserved elements of the fungal genomes. These regions stay in the genome through the evolution of a group, genetic evidence that links back to the most ancient ancestors.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was carted to the locker room after suffering what looked a serious leg injury against the Kansas City Chiefs. Aiyuk was left in visible pain towards the end of the first half in San Francisco after his right knee appeared to buckle awkwardly under a double tackle from two Chiefs defenders. As Trent McDuffie tried to take him down from behind, Chamarri Conner flew into the 26-year-old with a strong challenge before he fell to the ground in agony. He was carted off the field at Levi's Stadium and was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of Sunday's game. After their 28-18 defeat to the Chiefs, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed early indications suggest Aiyuk may have suffered a season-ending torn ACL. ... Aiyuk, who signed a $120million, four-year extension in late August following a lengthy contract 'hold in,' has 25 catches for 374 yards this season. He was a second-team All-Pro last season when he had 1,342 yards receiving.

We all get the occasional sugar craving, but a new survey finds that most Americans have gone completely overboard when it comes to sweet treats and drinks. In a startling revelation, the average American consumes an astonishing 36,000 grams of sugar per year — equivalent to nearly 80 pounds. This eye-opening statistic emerges from a poll of 2,000 Americans conducted by Talker Research on behalf of Hint Water, shedding light on the nation’s sugar habits and their surprising impact on hydration levels. The study found that the typical American ingests 99 grams of sugar daily, surpassing the sugar content of two 12-ounce cans of soda. This excessive consumption comes despite 85% of respondents actively working to reduce their sugar intake. The survey also reveals that for 34% of respondents, the majority of their daily sugar intake in beverages comes from their morning coffee. Another 28% say that soda makes up most of their liquid consumption. Interestingly, more than half of the participants (51%) believe that their sugar cravings might actually be a sign of dehydration. This insight gains significance when considering that respondents reported drinking only 48 ounces of water on a typical day, far below recommended levels.

Experts say the channel’s profit structure suggests a high level of demand and a lack of understanding that the images it creates are illegal Pornographic deepfakes, or digitally altered images generated through AI technology, are being widely distributed on the Telegram messaging app, including on one Telegram channel that produces deepfake nude images on demand for over 220,000 members. The channel, which was easily accessed through a basic online search, charges money for the fabricated images, which are based on photographs of actual people. Experts say the channel is a stark illustration of the current state of deepfake pornography — which many people are not even aware is illegal. A Telegram channel that the Hankyoreh accessed through a link on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday features an image bot that converts photographs of women uploaded to the channel into deepfake nude images. When the Hankyoreh entered the channel, a message popped up asking the user to “upload a photograph of a woman you like.” The Hankyoreh uploaded an AI-generated photograph of a woman and within five seconds, the channel generated a nude deepfake of that photograph. The deepfake tool even allows users to customize body parts in the resulting image. As of Wednesday, Aug. 21, the Telegram channel had some 227,000 users. As Telegram is used across the world, it’s likely that members of a variety of nationalities belong to the chat. The Telegram channel was very easy to access. A search for specific terms on X and other social media brought up links to the channel, and one post with a link was even featured as a “trending post” on X. Despite recent coverage of sex crimes involving deepfakes and related police investigations, posts are still going up to promote the channel. The Telegram channel generates up to two deepfake nudes for free but requires payment for further images. Each photograph costs one “diamond” — a form of in-channel currency worth US$0.49, or about 650 won — and users are required to purchase a minimum of 10 diamonds, with discounts available for bulk purchases. Diamonds are also given out for free to users who invite friends to the channel, in an obvious attempt to broaden the user base. Cryptocurrency is the only accepted form of payment, likely for anonymity reasons. The chat room does not allow users to send messages or pictures to one another. The trouble is that there is no way of knowing how the deepfakes the channel generates are being used by members.

Authorities in New York say a missing man’s dog never left his side. According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, when the body of 39-year-old Cody Johnson was found on Wednesday, his pit bull was right next to him. Johnson’s dog Afton acted as his service animal and refused to leave his deceased owner’s side. Lewis County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli said the four-day search for Johnson came to an end when a volunteer found his body near a camping spot they were familiar with. He is believed to have died as a result of the cold. “I think it’s in a way a little comforting knowing he wasn’t alone. The dog that’d been with him for quite a while was his companion and stayed with him for all those days and evenings,” Carpinelli said. According to Carpinelli, Afton initially refused to let searchers get close to Johnson, but he relaxed after being given biscuits and water.

The accused murderer of Beaverton nurse Melissa Jubane made an appearance in Washington County court on Tuesday, as friends and advocates of Jubane rallied outside. The 32-year-old Providence St. Vincent nurse had been married just weeks before she was found dead, two days after she was reported missing on Sept. 4. Her neighbor, 27-year-old Bryce Schubert, stands accused of her murder. Last month, he pleaded not guilty to charges of first degree murder, kidnapping, and second degree abuse of a corpse. A status hearing is scheduled for next month. “It’s the same thing, it’s just another checkup and it’s just going to be dragged on - another month, how many more, right?” asked Fredie Misay, a regional coordinator of local Filipino advocacy organization BAYAN Oregon. Misay didn’t know Jubane, but she also attended the University of Portland and shares a community in the Northwest Filipino American Students Association with her.

CASPER, Wyo. — Sublette County man Robert Wayne Eaker was recently sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for the production of child sexual abuse materials, with 15 years of supervised release to follow. The court also ordered the defendant to pay $36,000 in restitution and a $100 special assessment. Eaker was already a registered sex offender with prior offenses involving the sexual abuse of minors. In September 2023, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was conducting an online investigation for people sharing child sexual abuse materials. Agents noticed a Wyoming IP address sharing numerous files and traced it back to Eaker. Agents later received a search warrant for the house where he was living. Upon searching Eaker’s home, agents found he had produced lewd and lascivious materials of a child. Eaker admitted to producing the files without the child’s knowledge. In addition, investigators found hundreds of files containing prepubescent children on multiple devices belonging to Eaker.

Talented Wyoming guide Michael Gardner who cultivated his world-class mountain climbing skills in the Tetons is missing on a Himalayan peak and presumed dead. Gardner’s father, also a legendary climber, died in a fall from the Grand Teton in 2008. Gardner fell while attempting a climb of Jannu East, a 24,501-foot high peak in eastern Nepal earlier this week, according to alpine news sites, friends and employers. A French team retreating from the north face of the unclimbed peak saw Gardner’s partner, Sam Hennessey, alone on the face and waving on Monday, Explorersweb and AlpineMag reported. Hennessey told the French climbers that Gardner had fallen, the news outlets reported. The three Frenchmen and Hennessey then rappelled 2,300 feet to the bottom of the face together where they found pieces of clothing but no sign of Gardner. Gardner, 32, lost his father, a guide with Exum Mountain Guides, in an accident on the Grand Teton in 2008. George Gardner of Ridgway, Colorado, was 58 when he set off to climb the Lower Exum Ridge alone without a rope. Searchers found his body the next day. The cause of his fatal fall remains unknown. Michael Gardner was 16 at the time, but his father’s death didn’t deter him from climbing and skiing in the mountains and he, too, became an Exum mountain guide. “His guiding apprenticeship began informally, with his first mountaineering trips at age eight, with his father and saw him become one of the youngest guides in the United States,” his biography at the Exum Mountain Guides site states.

Joe Biden is considering sending American troops to operate a missile defence system in Israel as the country prepares for an exchange of attacks with Iran. The Pentagon has reportedly discussed deploying a Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) missile battery, which could be used to intercept Iranian missiles, and would be operated by US military personnel. It comes as Washington prepares for Israel’s response to Iran’s missile attack of Oct 1, which is expected within days and could include a missile strike on military facilities in Iran. Israel’s retaliation is expected to provoke a counter-strike from Iran – a deadly exchange of missiles that threatens to escalate the conflict towards a wider regional war. A THAAD battery would be operated by American forces on the ground, marking the first time that US troops have been deployed in combat in Israel during the current crisis. American troops have already been deployed in Gaza to build a “pier” for the delivery of humanitarian aid, on US Navy ships in the Mediterranean and to man air defences from neighbouring Iraq and Syria.

CBS staff are scared to speak up for a Jewish colleague caught up in an impartiality row for fear of being “ostracised” by their bosses, insiders have claimed. The network has been thrown into turmoil over an interview by Tony Dokoupil, one of its morning news anchors, after he was criticised by executives for showing bias towards Israel. In the interview, with the pro-Palestinian author Ta-Nehisi Coates, Mr Dokoupil said his comments about Gaza “would not be out of place in the backpack of an extremist” and asked: “What is it that so particularly offends you about the existence of a Jewish state that is a Jewish safe place?” He was later admonished on an all-staff call, where executives said the interview had not met the network’s impartiality standards. Sources on the show said Mr Dokoupil had previously been criticised internally for showing bias towards Israel. However, CBS News bosses were then criticised for the intervention, including by the CEO of the network’s parent company, who said it was a “mistake” and that the interview had been a model of “civil discourse”. An ally of Mr Dokoupil told The Telegraph that staff were now afraid to come to his defence because they feared being sidelined by executives. One source at the network said that the anchor’s critics in the newsroom had made assumptions about his views on Israel, and established a narrative about his reporting that others were afraid to challenge. They said most staff supported the interview, but feared reprisals for speaking up for their colleague because senior bosses had closed ranks in the face of public scrutiny. CBS News is embroiled in several impartiality controversies, with Donald Trump claiming that it favourably edited an interview with Kamala Harris on Monday to improve her answers. A preview clip of the vice-president offering a vague “word salad” answer on the Middle East was edited out of her interview on “60 Minutes”, the network’s flagship magazine show.

Two mothers have stunned onlookers by having a brawl in a ball pit in front of fellow parents and children. Footage, captured at a children’s play centre in China, showed the mothers whacking and kicking each other, as well as pulling each other’s hair. One woman threw the other woman down into the ball pit before grabbing her to lay more blows. The other woman then climbed up and tried to fight back. Other parents were seen quickly snatching their children out of the ball pit while others tried to intervene. Eventually, the two women collapsed to the ground but that did not stop their fighting — they only took pause when one woman chastised them both. Onlookers continued to film the interaction. It’s not known exactly why the women began to fight, however onlookers had a lot to say about the situation. “More entertaining than WWE and MMA,” one person declared after seeing what had happened. Another wrote: “More exciting than the Chinese men’s football team.” “Everyone kept shouting, ‘Stop fighting’,” another person wrote after watching the clip. “But not a single person from the crowd stepped in to stop them. “In fact, they were probably hoping the fight would continue,” one declared.

Kanye West told wife Bianca Censori that he wanted to have sex with her mother while she watched, the rapper’s ex-assistant claims in a new lawsuit, according to reports. West’s former personal assistant, OnlyFans star Lauren Pisciotta, also said in the filing in Los Angeles court that the 48-year-old rapper raped and drugged her at a party hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs. The 86-page filing details new allegations against West, including an apparent obsession with wanting to sleep with his partner’s mother, the outlet said. Pisciotta, who also was chief of staff for West’s Yeezy brand from 2021 to 2022, claims the rapper showed her text messages between himself and Censori, 29, saying he wanted to have sex with her mother. The Sept. 28, 2022, exchange centered on Censori’s mother, Alexandra Censori, who was visiting from Australia at the time, the outlet reported. Pisciotta also claimed West showed her another text message that he planned to send to Bianca in which he clarified that he wanted her to “watch” him have sex with her mother, according to the report. Pisciotta alleges in the court documents that West showed her the reply from Bianca which said, “She’s married,” referring to her mother Alexandra, according to the outlet.

The Israeli regime has defended its decision to ban the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, accusing the leader of the world’s top international body of “anti-Semitic behavior.” The Israeli foreign minister Israel Katz in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday justified Tel Aviv’s decision to ban Guterres from entering the Israeli-occupied lands after more than 100 UN member nations protested the move. He claimed that they banned Guterres from “entering Israel because he did not condemn the Iranian missile fire” on occupied territories and “his anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli behavior.” Iran carried out a retaliatory operation against the Israeli regime, dubbed Operation True Promise II, on October 1 in response to the regime’s assassinations of Hamas’s chief Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan. The United Nations on Wednesday called Israel’s decision to label the UN chief as a “persona non grata” and ban Guterres from entering the Israeli-occupied Palestinian lands as an abortive political move.

ERWIN, Tenn. – Among the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene and the countless stories of loss and hardship, one particular tragedy is under investigation after the deaths of several workers at a plastics company in East Tennessee. Robert Jarvis, an employee at Impact Plastics in Erwin, is consumed by anger and frustration as he recalls the terrifying events of last week when several of his coworkers were swept away by floodwaters outside the plant. He recounts how he and his colleagues were forced to continue working despite the deteriorating weather conditions. "We were all working and the power went out," he told FOX 39 in Greeneville. "I got a text … from another employee saying that the parking lot was flooded." Panicked, he tried to move his car to higher ground, as the parking lot became submerged. Jarvis said there was only one way out – a narrow road that was quickly becoming blocked. Jarvis said that despite his co-workers' pleas to be allowed to leave, they were told to stay put as other employees were reportedly trapped in the floodwaters outside. "We were in panic mode," he said. "The water was coming up, and then we did what we had to survive. It was a guy in a 4x4 who came, picked a bunch of us up, and saved our lives, or we'd have been dead too." A company spokesperson confirmed to FOX Weather that only two of the seven people missing in the flood have been located, with their bodies being recovered earlier this week. A third body was located Thursday, county officials said. "It hurts knowing that they didn't make it, and I did," Jarvis said. "It just doesn't seem fair to me that they didn't make it."

A new mum was furious when she thought her husband drank her orange juice - the only drink she could consume postpartum while recovering from the flu. But the truth was much stranger. Instead, Sheridan Hockley discovered a tradie stole a 2L bottle of juice from her fridge when he came to work on her windows. She lives in Edinburgh with her husband and had been down with the flu and a chest infection. As she'd recently given birth, Sheridan wasn't allowed to take a lot of medication so she went 'old school' and purchased big cartons of orange juice to try and get better. 'Sheridan knew she had just bought a 2L bottle of orange juice and she went to the fridge to get it but it wasn't there,' Brittany, her sister, shared the story on an episode of her podcast, Life Uncut. The couple lives alone, but Sheridan's brother-in-law lives in an apartment in the same building. 'Sheridan went back to her husband Jay absolutely raging,' Brittany said. 'She was hormone-filled, sick, and wanted juice.' 'I cannot believe you drank my juice,' Sheridan spat out. 'You know I am here, struggling to stay alive, and you've drunk the one thing that I can consume. The couple argued about it but Jay insisted he never touched the juice. 'Babe, I promise I didn't drink the juice,' he said. Sheridan then went into a rage and asked her brother-in-law, who claimed he was at work all day. It was at that moment she remembered a tradie came to their house to fix their windows earlier in the day. The doorbell camera captured an image of the tradie leaving with the unopened carton of juice.

    (1) Yes (2) "Sentient" is a better word. Man tends to be selectively compassionate. (3) The suffering is pretty imaginable, as is the torment, and it is all purposeful and thus needful. There is also a lot of pleasure, including very simple pleasures obtained from just looking at the horizon. (4) Life is not purely abuse, and we do not even know what the "cutoff" for heaven is.

    Some other points on this:

    • On March 10, 2011, Guinness World Records certified Hakamada as the world's longest-held death row inmate.
    • A featherweight, he was ranked as high as sixth in his weight class.[6] He finished his career with a 16–11–2 record, including one win by TKO. All of his losses were on points.[4] After his boxing career, he worked at a Shizuoka-based miso manufacturer.[7]
    • Hakamada was interrogated and, in August 1966, he was arrested based on his confession and a tiny amount of blood and gasoline found on a pair of pajamas he owned. According to his lawyers, Hakamada was interrogated a total of 264 hours, for as many as 16 hours a session, over 23 days to obtain the confession. They added that he was denied water or toilet breaks during the interrogation.
    • At his trial, Hakamada retracted the confession, saying police had kicked and clubbed him to obtain it, and pleaded not guilty.[7][2]

"I could do nothing but crouch down on the floor trying to keep from defecating," he later told his sister. "One of the interrogators put my thumb onto an ink pad, drew it to a written confession record and ordered me, 'Write your name here!' [while] shouting at me, kicking me and wrenching my arm."[6]

Hakamada supporters said the case was full of holes, arguing that the alleged murder weapon – a fruit knife with a 12.19-centimetre (4.80 in) blade – could not have withstood the forty stabbings of the victims without sustaining significant damage, and that the pajamas used to justify the arrest had disappeared and been replaced with the bloody clothing.[8] The clothes were too small for Hakamada but the prosecution argued they had shrunk in the miso tank and the label had a "B" or medium size label on it which would have fitted Hakamada. However the B indicated the colour Black not the size.

Bro got indicted for wearing a size Bedium.

There are definitely people who made terrible parents and part of that was the fact that they just did not have any real desire to be parents. That is highly problematic, of course, but the article does say that this is not about forcing kids on those who do not want them but rather it is about preventing anti-natalist ideologies to take root.

Of course, I think they will be promoting fertility actively and go further than what is just in the article. If they didn't, it'd not have much of an impact.

In general, I think that society should encourage fertility and a parental disposition for all people. Not to force it on anyone, but to promote good values and maybe have that positive impact, right...

Like society should promote racial tolerance & actively esteem women. Not because this will actually eliminate racism or gender discrimination, but because it will have some amount of an impact on bringing our society towards where we want it to be.

We believe that spiritual advancement is impossible without humility, and the greatest reminder of humility is our own mortality. This is why my uncle, an alcoholic, who spent his last year unable to keep food down and vomiting his guts up, who died quite painfully over the course of his last months, was perhaps able to convert. It was able to reduce his life back to the objective perspective of it: a mortal in a weak husk doomed to give up the ghost.

Which is why in Catholic & Orthodox traditions it is thought that a prolonged death is desirable and a sign of divine mercy, while a quick, instantaneous death that does not provide a chance for reflection and penance is considered undesirable.

One of the more important things to understand about this, IMO, is also that non-physical suffering is a great teacher. Even enduring the unjust slander given to you is a sort of penance and opportunity for self-improvement and spiritual awakening.

It is also the case that the suffering of others provides much opportunity for reflection - many people around the world come to a pacifism through observing the results of the Ukraine and Gaza conflcits.

Many people become vegans just by encountering a single suffering animal.

Perhaps that is enough text for now - tell me, what do you think about this idea?

This and your last point are great! I think that’s really what gets missed. It doesn’t help that politicians and media companies seem to communicate in a patronizing way. Like, just tell us what’s the benefit of using slave labor or selling more weapon’s to shady groups. Tell us how much it’ll cost to change and who gets impacted. Let us have an honest transparent discussion. (/crazy, never gonna happen talk)

I now honestly believe that a bunch of them like to believe their own shit, or that they have to convince those among them of their own shit in order to just make the process of rallying support for unsavory characters palatable. Just like how normal people will just go ahead with what the mainstream media tells them, normal billionaires will do the same...

So, the CIA creates the PR lines for the major media mouthpieces around the world and everyone just endorses them.

I bet the funniest conversation we never get to be a part of is when major bankrollers of the Democrats/Republicans (or your local versions) call each other up a day after the political banquet and ask one another if it's really about the party line for real or about the profiteering & realpolitik.

I recall learning about President Diaz in Mexico (he was a dictator) and how he allowed Americans to basically own everything (natural resources, railroads, large industrial corporations, etc.) while Mexican citizens were left to become a permanent working class with no chance of ever competing. Interestingly, he was praised during his time in office by the most famous American robber barons and considered a great leader that helped make Mexico become “industrialized” and modernized. They said those things out loud and seemingly meant them

I still genuinely do not know if the people praising him were using him and laughing quietly or if they genuinely saw it as a net positive for the average Mexican citizen at the time living as indentured servants forced to shop at company stores and whatnot. Like, if they genuinely believe it benefits the country to have such levels of inequality, it’s almost more worrying

The situation with Latin America has been overwhelmingly depressing since... forever.

Capitalism basically "works" for the developed world because we are at the end of the supply chain.

... When a median income American or a Frenchman or a Japanese person does poorly in school and then spends 3-4 years binge drinking or doing club drugs before joining the workforce, they can go to a trade school and end up with a solid income, a three or four bedroom home, two cars, everyone with a smartphone, cable TV, a gaming addiction, and a tidy little family with upward mobility...

... When a median income Filipino or Nigerian or Indian does absolutely everything right, tries hard and school, and they aren't one of the most talented 5%, they will break their back and work six days a week to simply maintain their position in a world of shit.

But bowtie professor man at University can explain to you why it's fair because SUPPLY & DEMAND... You are born in an area where an unskilled laborer gets to be in the service industry making $3,000 a month with a high school degree, and skilled laborers in many other countries making 1/8 that... And this imbalance is a FEATURE, not a BUG, because, if you haven't noticed... I am sitting in air conditioning and shit posting on the internet and I am not working my fingers to the bone in Bangladesh next to a fan.

So the answer can be either "yes, they are similar," or "no, there are significant divergences between the two."

Not to mention that both of them have very different journalistic reputations. So, even if they are similar enough in biases, one is far more high brow than the other and consistently produces more reliable and in-depth reporting (BBC).

They are the mouthpiece of Jewish finance & neoconservatism designed to advance the cause of Zionism and attempt to redirect prole racism from conventional racism & Nazism towards Islamophobia and a very controllable anti-immigration movement.

They are actually what has been designed to prevent a popular far right movement from taking place minus one that is completely defanged and can simply be used to pour prole energy into forever wars to advance international capital.

    It's pretty conventional stuff.

I don't know why anyone is so bothered by it - it's basically just three clicks to the right of CNN.

Yeah, like I am totally a supporter of protectionism because it makes sense to throw a bone to local industry and enable them to compete, especially when that is the de facto position of most societies around the world.

It's also bizarre to do massive bailouts for certain industries then just become super principled about the free market on another one.

I had heard it said that the reason why the US sometimes tolerates grave trade imbalances and sending jobs abroad is because it gives us a lot of diplomatic clout.

Like I just recently learned that when India is negotiating deals with the USA, the issue of H1B visas is openly discussed. The reason that Indians take up such a massive amount of the H1Bs doesn't have much to do with collusion within the immigration system - it has to do with promsies we make to unload their skilled workers into the US since they depend on the remittances they send home and being able to give some kind of good deal to their own citizens who have an education. It is a massive pressure relief valve that they can send huge amounts of Indians abroad since it means that they do not have to provide opportunities for them at home (because there are none). Without this, there'd likely be a hell of a lot more unrest in India.

Holy shit, it's a human interest story about a kidnapping that I happened to come across there.

Where are the lies..? Do you think someone over at Breitbart was like I gotta make a fake human interest story about a kidnapping that ends well - it also has to be FAKE, I can't just lift it from other journalistic sources... I have to be true to the Breitbart motto of EVERYTHING MUST BE FAKE CONSERVATIVE PROPAGANDA, even when not explicitly conservative...

    OK, that's interesting, I see...!

You could say, though, that Michael Jackson is very undeniably a historic black American who suffered through living in poverty in a poor area and partly lived through the civil rights movement, though he was quite young... He was an ambassador for black Americans even if he did not want to be.

This is a radically different experience than what Kamala had, and who am I to judge black Americans who feel that being a black American person requires some connection to that world..?

My grandfather did not learn that he was adopted until he was at his own mother's funeral (his father had already died). Someone there believed that he knew, and had brought it up casually. He turned as white as a ghost and proceeded to not discuss it for ten years.

My father was there, and he has always had interest in discovering the truth.

30 years later, with my grandfather in his 90s, he has no desire to know his biological parents, and when he learned he is completely a different ethnicity than both of his parents, he shrugged it off and said it was irrelevant because his cultural identity from his parents is the only relevant factor. Perhaps there is some internal discord over it, but I truly think that he remains psychologically unbothered. This has postiively impacted my own relationship with "blood" and "family," seeing them as irrelevant, yet also understanding my father's own desire to know their identities and trace the roots... He views it as an opportunity to have more family and more layers of identity, not as a biological identity canceling out another identity.

Of course, knowing that there was no foul play makes it a lot easier.

I did not know that about Pres. Wilson, thank you.

I also appreciate what you are saying here. I am not some extremist who thinks we need to remove Biden when his team is capable of navigating the last days of his Presidency but it would be strange to pretend those who disagree with me are goons for thinking as much.

... To be completely fair.... She had no say over her brother's situation, and I have even heard it said that Michael was suffering from vitiligo, which spurred his skin bleaching because it was producing a very mottled effect... But yeah, IDK, I do not follow Janet closely or anything.

I just do not see her as responsible for what her brother did, and do not think I can really have an opinion on what her brother did because the motive may have been completely benign. There is even something to be said about Michael Jackson eventually coming to terms with his own relationship with his race and what that may have meant for him.

A mega-rich popstar not even being satisfied with being black and later understanding his internalized racism is quite a story, if true.
